St. Patrick's Church

Originally started as a mission in 1923 served from St. Edward the Confessor Parish, mass was celebrated in an empty store at the corner of Logan Avenue and Lock Street by visiting priests. The growing faith community needed a larger more permanent space, so plans for a 200 seat church on Worth Street were made at a cost of $6,000.

In November, 1924, Archbishop Sinnott blessed the new church and dedicated it to St. Patrick the Apostle of Ireland. He also appointed Fr. Stephen Ryan as the first parish priest.

By 1929, the mission had become so active, it was deemed necessary to raise it to the canonical status of a Parish. A rectory was completed in 1930 and the parish had a resident pastor.

By the early 1950's, the parish had grown to the point where the church was no longer large enough to accommodate the parishioners and a new church was built. Construction of the new church started in 1954. On September 8, 1957, the new church of St. Patrick's Parish was blessed by Archbishop Philip Francis Pocock.

Today, St. Patrick's continues its mission, to be home to a faith community striving to live the fullness of the Gospel and to make the Eucharist the center of their lives. This parish life is built on the mission received in our baptism, the mission which calls each and everyone of us to a full and mature discipleship in Jesus Christ, in all areas of our living.
