Square Butte Ranch - AB-762

Square Butte Ranch is set amidst the Alberta Foothills area which is steeped in a rich history. The story of Square Butte Ranch is varied, colorful, and interesting owing its existence to the vision of Max Gibb. 

In the spring of 1989, under the original name Maximum View Ranch,  the concept, vision and approval for the project began. Then in 1990 a Master Plan was prepared that refined the mini-ranch concept. 

When Mr. Gibb sold Maximum West Ranch on Old Mill Road the project required a name change and in 1992 the Municipal District was notified of the project name change to Square Butte Ranch. In 1995, an Area Concept Plan was prepared for Square Butte Ranch in support of an application for designation to a Resort Recreation District.

In December 1995 approval was received for a private recreational ranch that enabled individuals to purchase mini-ranches/mini-ranchettes and hold title through a bare-land condominium structure.

Square Butte Ranch has attracted residents who say that they love the western feel of the community, the beauty of the land, and the peace and tranquility of the area. They love their close proximity to the Rocky Mountains, nature as a whole, and they love the sight of our equine friends in their pastures. Those that have been here since its inception have been known to say “we live in a little piece of heaven” and “it is the best kept secret”.
