Ten year waiting list to get a ship in there. Seems like a good community. Really good idea, and an excellent way to live in Vancouver

A beautiful place to walk past every day but this is a private live-aboard marina so no entry. Part of me wishes I was living on one of those boats but, alas, such was not my fate.

Spruce Harbour Is a wonderfully diverse "floating" community nestled in the heart of False Creek. The blend of young and old mariners define a bond held by those that share not only a dock but a neighbourhood unlike any other.

I had the distinct pleasure of becoming a part of this amazing little community for all of 30 days this past fall. It was hands down the best 30 days of my life. Waking each morning to the smell of the salt air, and going to sleep each night to the slight swaying of the boat β€” it can’t get any better. But, wait! It does ... because not only does Spruce Harbour have one of the most beautiful, scenic and peaceful locations in the Lower Mainland, but it also has the freakin amazing people who live aboard this ships. They are a close knit community, friendly, welcoming and something you do not normally find in Vancouver City Limits. Living there was more akin to my hometown of 200 people in rural Alberta. You didn’t lock the doors, you dropped in and visited with neighbors unannounced, you looked after and watched out for each other .... you were family. The clubhouse is simple, but it’s clean and feee and has some great amenities in it. The showers are a Godsend and have amazing water pressure. The laundry (which is free btw) has awesome high end commercial machines in it. And tons of them. You can get all your laundry done in basically less than 45 minutes .. that for a wash and a dry! I wish I didn’t have to leave there, but all great things must come to an end....or do they? Given the chance I will live there again, and it will be for keeps this time!
