Shawn is very passionate about his job, knowledgeable, confident, dedicated and professional. My family law matter was an ongoing issue that I previously tried to resolve for many years without success. From my initial conversation with Shawn I realized that a change of direction was needed. Shawn clearly explained his process and what the next steps were. After sending a letter to the opposing counsel I felt a sigh of relief and knew I was in good hands (I am a non-confrontational person and I needed someone to fight for me). Shawn is very strong and direct when communicating with opposing counsel and I feel well supported. He knows the law inside and out and how to apply it and can pivot quickly during court sessions (when needed) to the extent that the opposing counsel is steps behind. All that being said I also believe the team Shawn has put in place has been a huge advantage. His team is dedicated and passionate when we sit together to discuss strategy - literally everything stops and their focus and collaboration is amazing. I would recommend SMP in a heartbeat.

A	Ajenthan Ramanathan on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I had an initial consultation with Shawn Philbert, and he came across as very attentive, patient and experienced, and I was sure I had found my family lawyer. A few months later I had a follow-up consultation, and we spoke for less than thirty minutes and he didn't charge me. Again, I was pleased with Shawn's service. What I didn't like about SMP Law is the office management, particularly Lorrie Howse. They required that I call in to provide some background info about my case before they could set up an initial consultation, and only had availability for the consultation almost a week later. Months later, when I contacted them again, Lorrie was again rude and slightly condescending, and did not return my voicemail. After following up, I found out Shawn was on vacation and I could only book time for a week later. I tried booking time with him, and my voicemail wasn't answered again. I informed Lorrie I was unhappy with her responsiveness, and she assured my, once retained, all conversations will be via email and the team will be responsive. I became sick with COVID-19 before the retainer meeting, and asked if I could retain Shawn electronically, but Lorrie was not flexible in this regard. I asked her to reschedule past the ten-day isolation period, and days later she responded telling me to contact her again once the isolation period had passed. By this point, my sensitive family law issue was delayed by two weeks because of SMP Law and I had already retained another lawyer. I was looking forward to working with Shawn, but was disenchanted with his firm's service because of my experience with Lorrie, and I also figured that they might have been too busy to handle my case anyway, which was why it was so difficult to retain them.
