Just spent 10 mins on the phone with Colin who gave me some awesome straight up no BS advice on a custom high output electrical system problem. GREAT customer service - give these guys your business! Thanks Colin!

I approached this company regarding the repair of a starter for an ATV. The woman I spoke of was rude and not very knowledgeable on the subject. They advised me that my starter was UNREPAIRABLE over the phone because of a broken magnet. I then took matters into my own hands and repaired my starter myself. One new magnet and rear housing bushing and I have a brand new starter for dirt cheap. I received horrible service from this company. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

Sloppy workmanship, over-priced, poor customer support I brought a Delco generator with an external voltage regulator that was not charging to Smith for testing and repair. After about 2 weeks the issue was determined to be the regulator. Along with the new regulator I was told the battery cables and generator bearing and bushing needed to be replaced as well. After paying for all this and getting it back and reinstalled, I could not get it to charge properly. Essentially it was continuously charging full amperage, and trying to maintain somewhere around 17 volts. After several days of troubleshooting wiring, a new battery, and confirming I had good grounding, I brought the generator and regulator back to Smith to be tested. Colin quickly put it on the bench and said it was working fine for him and that I must have an issue with my wiring. I returned back again, but still could not get it to work properly. As I was certain my wiring and grounds were good, I found another alternator repair shop to take the generator and regulator too. Within a couple hours they found a pinched wire inside the generator (likely from when the bearing was replaced at Smith). They also concluded the new regulator Smith had given me was no good. I purchased a new regulator from them, and paid for the generator repair, altogether for less than half of what Smith charged just for the regulator part. This time when I brought it back and reinstalled everything there were no issues - same wiring, same battery, even the old battery cables worked perfect. I followed up with Smith again after all this to see if there was perhaps even something that could be done for warranty or return on the defective regulator part, but they were unwilling to offer any support or refund for anything.

Needed a starter from a '53 Oliver Tractor. Obviously parts are hard to find (needing to order from States, not really knowing what would fix it). They actually had the brushes, so I thought I'd try that before ordering the starter the next day and worst case keeping the brushes as a spare. Turned out the brushes were all it needed and instead of costing me $450+ USD for a new starter to be shipped from the States, or just under $300 CAD for them to get me one the next day, I was back in business for only $8 CAD. She also pointed out that the wrong brushes had been installed previously. Awesome, thanks for having local stock on old stuff!
