Beautiful spot for sunsets, lying on the beach and kayaking. Get reservations if you can for the campground. Campsites are a little smaller than the usual provincial campgrounds.

Beautiful spot! We also camped at the campground which was recently renovated - great tent pads, clean and new bathrooms. The park ranger was very kind as well! Highly recommend.

We keep coming back year after year for both Cortes and the campground at Smelt Bay. Campground is kept very clean and although the campsites are not super private ,they're great if you like to socialize with your fellow campers. Kids love to ride their bikes around and play for hours on the beach. Fantastic picnic shelter in the middle of the campground for rainy days.

I agree with the one post I love the island found it amazing told many people about how great it was, nice beach at this park but the negatives about this park even garnished a letter to BC Parks. Other places to stay BC Parks needs to seriously re-evaluate the way they run this park.

Amazing!!!! Very calm and beautiful pebble beach that extends from the park frontage at the south end of Smelt Bay. The Smelt Bay park is the only provincial campground on Cortes Island with 22 campsites.

A lovely Provincial Park, but the campground is definitely not open year round. We had to camp in the overflow area which was one big muddy parking lot.

This is now one of my favorite places on earth for sure. It's comparable to the paradise beaches I've seen in Mexico, it's something out of this world. So so so peaceful. Ranger Tim is really kind too. The bathrooms are super clean, lots of flies tho but hard to keep em out, the camping sites are so nice, space for two tents, maybe three, fireplace and a table. Also you can pick blackberries really close from there. Read the story of the black/orange bench, so sad :(

Smelt Bay is very picturesque; the water here is beautiful, calm and incredibly inviting. I could spend all day in the water and looking around the Bay area. I would definitely recommend it for camping or even a day visit.
