Silver Birches Resort - M'Chigeeng

Amazing place . Racheal and John are really good people. I was there for the first time, but seemed liked a family. They have been very honest on the website about grumpy people and living in the woods. We enjoyed the weekend there and wished we could spend more time with them. Racheal keep up the work and I love you . Will see you soon . Thank you for making our stay a memorable.

What can I say about our experience? I had wonderful conversations with Rachel leading up to our stay. She is incredibly friendly and I was really looking forward to meeting her and to our vacation as she made it seem like heaven on earth. Now, before I go on I have to say that I am not a high maintenance person. I grew up in the north and I know cottages can be rustic. I am not the type of person who complains, in fact it makes me uncomfortable to do so and takes a lot to get me to that point. I am a very happy, easy go lucky individual and I believe the best in others. Unfortunately, I feel as though I have been taken advantage of with this place. I know this will be lengthy, but I feel like I have to give an honest review. When we arrived, we were greeted with smiles. It started off lovely and I was very excited when Rachel indicated that we would be staying in the honeymoon cottage. She said it was the best cottage on the resort and that we would love it. Upon check in, we found out that there are no keys, which felt off-putting. Nonetheless, we checked in and set off for cottage 11. Once we walked in and saw the interior of the cottage we thought there had been some mistake. The cottage was incredibly run down and very poorly "cleaned". I know cabins can be rustic, but I will not settle for a dirty cabin, especially in a Covid pandemic. There was a hole in the mattress, big claw marks down the wall, huge cobwebs in the low hanging light fixtures, no curtains on any windows, dirt and grunge on the floor (especially built up in corners), debris on the kitchen table and an overall dirty/dingy feel to the place. After the shock wore off, we called Rachel to address our concerns. She said she was unaware of the issues with the cottage and stated that they were fully booked and unable to move us. As it was late in the evening, the only solution we could agree to was to have a "new" mattress delivered to our room. Not surprisingly, the newer mattress was very old looking, with various stains on it and it was clear it had been around the block a few times. At this point we had lost all trust in the staff and the resort. Rachel stated that we would touch base in the morning, indicating that there would be 2 more cottages available at 11 am for us to see once others had checked out. She further stated that if we were not satisfied, that she would refund us, which according to her "is something I never do, but I will do for you". Prior to checking in, we were told over the phone by Rachel's Mother that per public health, it is mandatory to wait a minimum of 3 hours after someone checks out before cleaning staff can even enter a room. Given this, upon reflection it made my Husband and I very uncomfortable to look at new cabins so soon after others checked out. Not to mention, Rachel stated several times over that we had the best cottage, so why wait to see a cottage that is deemed lesser than the cabin we were already unstatified with? For these reasons, once we woke up in the morning we walked by the main office area. Nobody seemed to be around, so we began packing our things. Before we left, we tried calling to connect, but no luck. After this terrible experience we decided to drive the 5 hours back home as everywhere else was booked up on the island. Since then, I texted Rachel many times with no answer. There was never an issue getting a response before that. No luck getting anyone on the phone either. At least, not from my number. Because of this I decided to use my husband's phone and low and behold, she answered within just a few rings. As soon as she realized it was me, she couldn't get off the phone fast enough. She came up with some lame excuse, stating that her Mother would call within 20 minutes to "discuss the series of events" and that was that. I'm still waiting for her Mom to call back, despite leaving a voicemail with clear instructions on how I can be reached. I feel cheated, lied to and taken advantage of. It is shameful how these people make false promises and refuse to follow through.

Might be biased coming from me. But there is no place like home, except for silver birches! Its always welcoming everyone that comes its way. My mother does everything in her power to make sure everyone is happy and enjoying themselves. She is overly OCD with cleaning but running a resort you should be. My dad fixes things with the best knack for perfection and detail. All my opinion but they sure make this place extra special to be in. Enjoy the beautiful scenery (the lakes, trees, animals, docks) and the most beautiful sunsets. Anyone is lucky to go here. :)

A fun and entertaining atmosphere where Everyday is a Saturday! The owner John and his daughter Rachael amongst her family, are an excellent bunch of people and make you feel welcome and relaxed! They make sure the cabins are clean and up to date. Modern with a touch of country camping!

The expierience here was super nice. The owners of this resort are very helpful and willing to go out of their way to make your stay a successful one. The water is very refreshing and very clear and clean. There are about a dozen of nice cabins on this property. Plenty of space indoors and outdoors. The kitchen included everything. We had a fantastic stay here.

Visited for a quick overnight about 6 years ago, and finally managed to make it back!! Rachel remembered me and welcomed me back... Amidst a 2 week motorcycle road trip with a friend, we stayed for 8 days....was everything I had hoped it would be. Privacy, beautiful scenery and great cabin too!! Perfect for open fire steak cooking, relaxing and listening to the waves against the shore...bonfires and crickets for tunes... Our 2 bdrm cabin was great!!! Will definitely be back next year!!!!

The host of this place are just amazing. Just like their website says this place is for you if you like to have a lot of fun , get a little loud and party this is the place for you. The host here are a as good as their guest. Come here only if you like friendly people who like living life like its the 90's.

I enjoyed my stay! Though I strongly suggest the owners to take care of the showers and toilets, replace the matras in every cabin, and just organize a general cleaning. The condition is not good. But very authentic place to stay. We have been fishing and hiking around every day.
