I have had quite a unique experience with Joy and Shanti Yoga Studio and left my third ever class yesterday in a state of pure bliss. I purchased the 30 day unlimited pass in November 2020 and managed to attend two classes before they unfortunately had to shut due to Covid. Joy and I have been in communication ever since, with her trying to work out the best (if any) way to compensate me as I moved away from the area. By chance, I returned for a brief stay in Nelson the same day that they re-opened the studio in June 2021 and was thrilled to be back on the mat. I attended Joy's Rebalancing class and it was physically, mentally and emotionally grounding. I fell so deeply in to savasana, I was convinced that everyone would have left by the time I resurfaced! My interaction with Joy in person reminded me of the beautiful essence of this studio - and of this wonderful community - that of generosity, compassion and a genuine desire to help and heal one another. Returning to Nelson has been a whirlwind, but I can always count on the studio and the classes to bring me back to center. If you want to experience the authentic unity that yoga represents, feel welcomed, seen, supported and spend 60 minutes in a state of empowered rejuvenation... then treat yourself to some time with Shanti.

I travelled to Nelson a couple of weeks ago and decided to do a yoga class. After a google search, I found Shanti Yoga, or maybe it found me?! What a beautiful studio! Joy, the owner and instructor, was so welcoming and inviting. She made me feel at ease immediately. I went to one of her rebalancing classes and Joy was great in providing verbal cues, demonstrating poses and providing individual tips to students as she walked around. I am relatively new to yoga and was a bit hesitant to go to a studio I was not familiar with, but I am sure glad I did! I highly recommend Shanti Yoga!!! Can't wait to return to Nelson in the future and I will be sure to hit up some yoga classes at Shanti when I do!!!!

I had a terrible experience with Shanti yoga. I bought a one month unlimited pass right before COVID hit and still haven't been able to use it because of restrictions and the current COVID chaos we are in. It was impossible to get in touch with them about simply extending my pass. Funny enough they were fast at answering other questions or requests but seemed to ignore queries about my pass. Their communication and customer service is awful. After finally getting in touch with them they were rude, dismissive and defensive about the entire situation. They refused to extend my pass or give me a refund. Nelson is a very tight knit community and to be treated so poorly will no doubt reflect in their business as I will most certainly be sharing my experience with others. I highly recommend going to a different studio or at least not buying a pass here as they are unreliable, unprofessional and apathetic. Not the qualities one wants in a yoga studio.

Shanti yoga was extremely hard to contact, I emailed, facebook messenger, and Instagram DM the studio but to no avail. The only time I was able to contact them was when I walk into the studio in person. I was just wondering if I could transfer my pass to another person and she said she would contact the board and be in touch within a week. That was the first week of December 2021. Since then I have sent another email but have had no response. I would recommend staying away from Shanti yoga as there customer service is the worst I've ever seen.

I had such a terrible experience at this studio. I would not recommend. I never felt so pressured to buy a pass. Joy (the owner) didn’t tell me pass expired until after I took the class, forcing me to buy another one to square up when I wasn’t planning on returning to the studio. I heard that happen to quite a few people while I was there so be sure to check on your passes. She also pressures you to use the ones you have more to help out the studio which just felt awkward. I would have been more inclined to buy another pass if she wasn’t such a controlling teacher. I’ve also heard a few teachers mention she was very hard to work with, definitely wouldn’t recommend this studio. Given yoga is about doing what feels good in your body, it felt weird that she kept telling me to stop doing certain movements even though I know I was doing them safety.

Shanti is truly one of the best places in Nelson. Joy is so knowledgeable about human anatomy and physiology, as well as being a very kind and lovely person. I am grateful for Joy and her warm presence in the studio and our community!

I don’t think I’ll be able to summarize in one review how amazing Shanti is, and how big Joy is in my life. I have a deep gratitude for yoga, this place, and for Joy. When I love something, I have a hard time containing it. The way I describe her classes, are that they are not like most yoga classes people attend, they are incredibly therapeutic, and she focuses so much on the breath and the inner core. My guru here in Nelson ♥️

As a newcomer to the area, finding Shanti Yoga Studio and Joy (joy!) has been a warm homecoming! The Rebalancing Flow Class is taking my practice to a new level in the embrace of welcome and kindness. You won't regret a visit, and likely, like me, come back for more!
