Superb sector of the National Trail (Kaël lake trail, Maskanaw and beacon 2 kilometers) The hike is easy to Intermediate, despite steeper walking areas and slightly more chaotic trails. Very well marked in red and white for the SN and in blue and white or orange and white depending on the sector. Good correspondence with the maps at the start of the route. The views over the valley of the Black River and Lake Kaël are very, very beautiful.

Very nice trail. Need to have some tree removed from the trail. Lots of camping possibilities.

Buyer beware. This is not in any way, shape or form a ski trail. With extensive backcountry experience and skins, a skier might be able to manage at most 75% of the trail, but poor planning and maintenance make some parts downright dangerous. Most of the less experienced skiers in my group just took off their skis and walked. Still very pretty though, and would be fun in snowshoes.

We chose a 12km trail (aller-retour) , took around 4hrs. Free admission and no parking fee neither.

Please be mindful of your environment. Do not leave trash and do not walk over the beautiful lichen.
