About Salisbury House (Pembina & Stafford)
The Salisbury House restaurant chain has been serving quality food for over 90 years in Manitoba Canada. Known locally as Sals, the chain is considered an iconic Winnipeg institution. The first Salisbury house restaurant opened in downtown Winnipeg in 1931 by founder Ralph Erwin, who named is new eatery after the Salisbury Steak. Erwin was not fond of the term hamburger so he named his now famous burger a Nip making reference to a small nip or bite of Salisbury Steak.
In 1979, Erwin sold his majority interest in the company to a group of local business owners, who brought the ownership of Salisbury House back to Winnipeg, from the previous Montreal based owners. This group included majority shareholders, Earl and Cheryl Barish. In 2006, Mr. Barish became President and CEO of Salisbury House of Canada Ltd. Currently, he serves as Chair of The Board. The balance of ownership comprised local business owners and professionals; including Winnipeg icon Burton Cummings, the lead singer of the world famous rock group, The Guess Who.
Currently, there are 8 FULL SERVICE Family Restaurant locations, and the Sals Market. Sals also operates in two golf courses, runs a car hop, offers full catering services, cake decorating, private event hosting, and more!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Unfortunately that Sunday lunchtime rush caused a wait for food . We ordered seniors fish and chips. The fish was tough and over cooked. Next time it will be sent back. Normally we have no complaints.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Went two days in a row. They remodeled for COVID, but didn’t feel invasive. This place is great the manager runs it so well and knows every customer. Feels like the local dinner it is. We know all the waitress’s and they are really great. They are super busy but never let a table feel neglected. All around good spot. Our kids love the pancakes and potatoes. We just enjoy the great service and classic eats.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The service was very slow. Had a beef dip fries and a salad hubby had a burger and fries with gravy.... Everything was cold. The fries were soggy and the gravy had a thick film of crud already on top. But they did comp the whole meal. And the waitress was really helpful and kind.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I've been coming to this location for years. The menu has changed only slightly in all that time. Food is good, wait staff are prompt and friendly, and the prices are fair. Also, if you are like me and like ice chips (the small round-ish ice) that's what all their soft drinks are served with.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Who doesn't have a Sals memory. I went again today and as I was alone sat at the counter. The place was very busy and a hive of activity. The staff were hopping. I could look into the kitchen and everyone from the cooks to the servers were working hard and I was struck by how much they all seemed to be enjoying themselves. A great vibe for a workplace. The food was up to it's usual high standard. Just a great Winnipeg institution!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing as always. Friendly staff, reasonably quick service considering a table of eight, plenty of refills on your coffee. Great value normally, especially so with the mailer/online coupons offered. Perfect "diner food" experience, founded locally, owned and operated locally. Child friendly too!
