Some of the local children have spoken of "shadows" there. Not noticed any myself, but this place has a history...

Located at midway of Deer Lake Park and Oakland/Royal Oak intersection. Keep going NE and one will arrive at the Deer Lake Park trail. A small park though. With pretty gardening and some playing facilities for kids.

Very nice walk with many places to stop, rest, and enjoy the view. Very clean and well maintained, a forest in the middle of a pleasant neighborhood. There's steps that lead all the way to deer lake.

I would not consider this a park but rather a park like setting with a few benches and a lovely staircase leading up to the water fountain. The water fountain was created by Canadian artist Tony Bloom. Tony's known for working with bronze, steel, copper and aluminum, producing small to monumental outdoor sized installations. Some of his works over the past 50 years have included ceremonial, interpretive, inspirational and items of functionality. The gardens leading up the staircase are nice but it was the Shaggy Mane mushrooms that caught my attention. They were quite delicious ? For thousands of years this area was abundant in wildlife, and was a place of hunting and gathering for the Coast Salish indigenous first peoples. From 1862 to 1911 it was designated as a Wildlife Reserve.A year later the Oakalla Prison and Farm officially started taking residents!. Demolished in 1992, the granite staircase is all that remains of the long walk up to the big house!
