Never judge a Volkswagen's cover. You go into the legion thinking it's a legion.... Cheap drinks, spectacular food, engaging staff and clientele. Strongly recommend Tuesday nights

Went here for karaoke on a Tuesday. During my set, I went up to another table to encourage the other patrons to sing. Shortly after, I had a woman at the table beside them yelling at me telling me to stay in my β€œkaraoke space” - so I did. I continued to watch this woman put her fingers up to her temples and shake her head in disgust at me as I finished my song. It was disheartening and made me feel incredibly uncomfortable - especially as she was sitting in the front row. Before leaving, I went up to said woman and asked, β€œHow does it feel to ruin someone’s first karaoke experience?”. Her response? β€œDo you know who I am?”. I responded, β€œNo, I do not; however, you making someone feel uncomfortable and unwelcome when they are performing karaoke is not kind”. Her response? β€œI’m one of the presidents. My name is on the liquor license and you offering to have others sing is against Legion rules because of COVID”. I explained that she may be correct, however, if that was indeed her role her professional responsibility was to tell patrons that they had broke the rules and to reinforce them, not to makes others feel bad without context - especially when said patrons were already in a vulnerable situation - singing - and, moreover, were patrons who were tipping the bartender and server generously. Customer Service 101. Keep in mind that I had watched this lady two-step with 2 or 3 different men from different tables - not aways wearing a mask- during my time at the bar. At the end, she asked her Treasurer to β€œdeal with” me, however, I was already leaving so it was moot. Never have I ever felt more unwelcome at a facility in the Lower Mainland. Furthermore, the entitlement that one of the β€œpresidents” demonstrated is absolutely outrageous. This is not an individual who withholds the legion values, rather someone who uses her β€œcredentials” to make casual patrons feel poorly if it fits her agenda.

I cannot enough good things about this super place to go. They have the cheapest drinks in town and the cheapest and best wholesome food in town too. A full steak dinner with choice of potatoes plus freshly prepared vegetables, all for only $12.00 including tax! Great karaoke nights every Tuesday and great live bands like Max 11 on Fridays and Saturdays, with dancing included and no cover charge. You DO NOT need to be a Member to come join us but once you have been, you will certainly be back again. Meat draws, 50/50 draws, special theme nights and great staff and friendly customers. Our brand new Legion will be opening early next year just the other end of the block. It will also have the most advanced full clinic in North America for PTSD patients, plus a full high rise above with apartments for VETS and others. The new #229 Legion will be big, bright, fancy and totally wonderful yet still the best bang for your buck in town. If you become a member, an associate member or an affiliate member, you can then benefit from 10% discounts on all of your drinks, plus many other benefits. Membership is also very cheap, so you really should consider joining. Five stars plus for food, drinks, staff, cleanliness, friendliness and a warm welcoming ambience always.

First time at this location. Walked passed this like several hundreds of times but never went in. So dont get me wrong, I've been to the main street legion and the commercial drive one. This one is like really close to home. Decided to finally checked it out. Tonight they had live music and it was super bumping. Linda our bartender was super inviting/warm/pleasant. Imo without her / staff this would just be a "regular" everyday bar. But with the Legion staff it feels more like a neighbourhood bar. Will be coming back for karaoke Tuesday and Wings Wednesday.
