Riverside Motel

We were hoping for a place to stay before crossing into Ontario. Found two motels, this one and one up the road a bit by 15 min, I read the ratings and reviews but my travel partner said "oh this one's fine". It was a mistake. Arrived around 3pm sign said "open" but there was a note on the door to call (this phone number) if you want a room. It was the strangest check in ever. I expected once we called to say that we were here and wanted a room that someone would come to the office...but no. An Asian woman on phone (Fang) wanted out info and credit card number....but we wanted to see the room first. A room was left unlocked for visitors to view ..my partner said it was fine, so we paid on the phone. No one came. Two beds, microwave, fridge that doesn't work, and we were warned not to drink the water. We were told there was bottled water in the fridge (there wasn't). TV instructions were in Chinese. Literally one electrical outlet available in room for charging. Spent the first 15 min in room trying to shoo fat houseflies out of the southern facing windows. Windows single pane and noisy from TransCanada highway. (Called "Riverside" but there's no river in sight) Very "dated/tired". Of course, no in room coffee or breakfast. Also, no restaurants anywhere close by, so pack your own food if staying here. Oh, and shower pressure =0. Tub filled as a trickle and water stunk...do we didn't bother having a bath and didn't feel safe even using the sink for tooth brushing. Ok if you really just need a room to sleep in. That's it.

We had 2 rooms booked and were there a total of 1 hour. The place is dated at best. One of the rooms smelled strongly of formaldehyde but I thought "I can live with this for one night". Inside of the hour I was getting a sore throat and that was the last straw after listening to the comments from the rest of the family about odors, critters and moldy corroded bath tubs. A couple calls later we were recommended to Roadhouse 52 Inn & suites in Steinbach (which was excellent!). I'll admit I feel guilty leaving a negative review like this, but I understand we were charged $160 of the $200 for the rooms so I decided not to hold back. Again, call Roadhouse 52.

Poor room quality. Room was freezing. Sat in my jacket for 15 min before it was semi warm enough to take off. Wifi did not work when i called the lady moved me rooms and wifi still did not work. Cheap cost but very cheap quality. The only good thing was location Will not be returning

DO NOT STAY Stayed last Saturday, had to left room at 2:00 am. The room which we got had so much noise from air conditioner and fire alarm device which couldn’t let us sleep. Moreover, there were heaps of bugs roaming around room inside. I would rather drive whole night than stay here!!!

This was a disgusting place to stay, I would rather drive whole night than staying here. The water stinks, air conditioner and fire alarm make constant sounds which won’t let you sleep, flies all over the place, very very poor wifi, poor maintenance, no power outlets, odour all over rooms, coming to the washrooms leaking taps, stains on toilet, bathtub, sinks, taps. STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT TO STAY. PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

Completely bug infested inside. Dirty, like really really dirty. There were some personal items like a comb and stuff from the last people in the room and all the sheets were stained like someone died in there. Nowhere to turn around if you have a trailer. The road to get there off the highway is not marked and you will drive by it guaranteed. Do not stay here.

NOT ADVERTISED but when you arrive you are told not to drink the water from the tap, you are given two water bottles for all of your needs. See the pictures but I wouldn't (and didn't) shower here either. I couldn't wait to leave the next day. (Zoom in on the shower picture) In short, the place is very old and over priced. I'd rather camp in a tent or sleep in the car than here. I do not recommend this place.

Where else are you going to find a $60 hotel room on a Friday night? A pleasant surprise on my way to Winnipeg after every hotel in kenora was booked solid. No frills, pretty clean, nice staff. A good place to stay if you’re on a budget.
