My name is Jolaine Rayner. I am a mom, educator, leatherworker, lover of nature, business owner, and professional photographer. I have had the incredible experience of teaching art to diverse ages for many years. After achieving a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Lethbridge, I was employed as an outreach artist within SD76 and implemented the art-based Reggio Emilia approach into school-based classrooms. I obtained my Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of British Columbia and was awarded the Leon Tuey Scholarship in Art Education. I taught art to grades nine to twelve, supervised the after-school art club, and having a strong background in photography and design, conducted an advanced placement photography workshop to help students construct their portfolios for art school. I had the wonderful opportunity to live and learn at O.U.R. EcoVillage, an immersive learning community rooted in social, ecological, and economical well-being dedicated to the promotion of sustainable living. During my stay, I co-facilitated permaculture, natural building, and mosaic design workshops for visiting school groups.
I am a huge advocate for creating an inquiry-rich learning environment where children feel empowered and capable. My knowledge and ability in various art mediums grant students many streams in which to explore their curiosities. What I truly love about teaching is the ability to fuel a child’s sense of wonder and inspire life-long learning.
