Remand Centre

Winnipeg Remand Centre is a filthy place that demonstrates Canada's shameless systemic racism and wilful disregard for the rights of prisoners, and of Indigenous Canadians in particular. The staff are largely, if not entirely, comprised of uneducated, foul-mouthed, morally bereft thugs with a propensity for abusive behaviour and dishonesty. In May, 2015 three of its brutish officers were finally given the sack after being caught on camera luring a mentally ill prisoner out of his cell and then violently assaulting and humiliating him. Sadly, he was one of the brightest, most hard-working and well-behaved inmates of the lot - but now he suffers fear and nightmares because of the attack. And just recently on 1st May 2016 another one of the Winnipeg Remand Centre's henchmen killed an epileptic prisoner by refusing him his prescribed epilepsy medication. The late prisoner's wife suffered the nightmarish ordeal of having to helplessly listen to her husband having the seizure while they had been speaking by phone; now that he has passed away she is left in the same pathetic fate as countless other Indigenous victims of systemic racism in Canada - to sit and wait for the rusty gears of the unmotivated investigators to slowly grind along in their indifferent fact-finding procedures.

I visited this placed (unwillingly) in 2008 and was placed on the gang when I am not even in a gang! soon as I entered the door slammed behind me and this muscular native dude with tattoos on his face said "eh boi don't fawkin slam da door" as I glanced around the room trying not to stare at anybody for too long I did notice an abundance of Native American men mostly heavily tattooed, some of them were throwing up their gang sign at me I guess to let it be known that I was on their turf, others were playing cards, crib, watching TV. I stayed in my cell until one of the inmates demanded that I come out and "do my time" so I watched TV for a bit and eventually was approached by what seemed to be the gangs leader he said to me in a calming but stern voice "eh bruh, who u down wit?" I said "uh.. pardon me?" he replied "Which gang are you down with?" I said "ohh no no i'm not into gangs" he chuckled and replied "yeah, well, gangs are into you" and walked away. I nearly thought I was going to pass out my heart was racing with fear. Luckily I made bail the following day and never went back to that horrible place and I swear I will never J WALK again!

It's a terrible place and you are treated like garbage by staff. They also stole some personal items I was checked in with but they were gone when I got released. They need to pay the staff more so they can have some quality human beings work there. As of now they have none. They are plan lazy, and get irritated if you ask them a question. It's not like they would give you an answer. There to lazy to even talk.

Heard a lot of mixed reviews on this resort. Expedia booked me for free. Food was okay, room service was excellent, staff was miserable as hell, didn’t book me in my room right away. Had to wait hours for house keeping. TV lacked channels and some of the guests seemed a little upset upon arrival. None the less I give it 3 stars. I’d say include a hot tub area and basketball courts as well as casino and this resort will be a 5 from me. Cheers guys!

At this luxurious "Hotel", you can expect 3 meals per day, clothing and toiletries are provided for you. Shared accommodations with a complete stranger, so you'll meet new and exciting people all the time. You'll never know how long you're staying, so hang in there! Plenty of books to read, and blaring Rap music to ease your mind. All this for the low, low price of nothing! Yup, you heard me! It's free! Well, except for you freedom and dignity. Enjoy!

I think this hotel could use a little more. They should add casino's, a Hot tub, a water park, more tv channels, pubs and a fighting ring. otherwise The entry fee was a low low price of fraud. Which is great and the 17 day night stay was so good, the staff treated me like I committed a crime. not that bad, but I like it. Next time I am going bring my whole family. I think my wife would like it. I rate it 4 out of 5 stars.

Guards that work there are brutal. Women working front desk main entrance. Shame on you Tracey you need to look at job description calling people names right out loud. Tracey your words to inmate and other guards yelled out remark as well. Shame on you two guards. You should be fired on the spot for discrimination. Finally they will be accountable for there words .
