Pro Math Coach

My children have asked me to write this review for Mrs. Leong at Math Coach. In a very short time I have seen a transformation in my children. They are loving math now. Both have told me over and over how Mrs. Leong breaks the concepts down in such a way, she makes it easy and very enjoyable for them. She is an amazing teacher and a very kind human being. We will continue to work with her as long as she will have us. If your child is struggling in math she is your answer. We are truly blessed to have found her.

Pro Math Coach has had a tremendous impact on my daughter. With her grade 10 math course being compressed into 10 weeks due to COVID-19; there are daily assignments and a unit test each week. Understanding the pressure, Ms. Leong quickly developed a strategy and planned tutoring sessions to accommodate my daughter’s course schedule. Despite the tight timeline, Ms. Leong’s tutoring has resulted in my daughter fully understanding the concepts, and being well prepared for her first exam. With a 95% score, I can attest that Ms. Leong’s approach works and I anticipate my daughter will continue to do well with Ms. Leong’s help. With only 2 weeks of tutoring, my daughter’s confidence has improved and I have seen a drastic reduction in her stress (as well as mine!). I highly recommend Ms. Leong and Pro Math Coach services.

Pearl is amazing. She is patient and caring with her students and takes the time to really dig in deep to help the child understand different concepts. Her ability to connect with the student really helps with the learning process. With her knowledge and guidance, her support will lead your child to success! She has officially now taken time with my daughter. She has taught her how to do BEDMAS and she has gone up a few levels after only a couple of days. Her patience really does help and strict rules to ensure that students understand why work needs to be shown and organization of materials is so important!

We are grateful to have found Pro Math Coach. My son has made incredible strides in his math abilities since working with Pearlynne. She invests time and energy into building a relationship, does a thorough assessment of the child's current abilities, builds confidence through review of foundational skills, and enthusiastically supports and encourages growth. My daughter was struggling a lot with math and was having a lot of anxiety for being behind on her class level, she always kept saying math was not for her and she didn’t like it. I researched for a lot of math teachers, but when I found Pearlynne I immediately connected with her as a Teacher and Holistic Therapist myself I think it is very important to guide the kids also through their belief system towards the subject and find also what is holding them back, beside the curriculum itself. So, Pearlynne is a combo at what she does?! My daughter now has been more confident and being able to help some other classmates at her class and even participate to solve problems in front of the class. Not a chance she would do that before! We are so thankful for all the love, patience and care you show to my daughter every time.???

My daughter's improvements in Math became evident within two weeks of working with Pearl. She is developing skills that are transferring to her school Math class. We have tried different Math supports for her over the years, and this is the only one where we are seeing dramatic improvements in a very short amount of time. Most importantly, my daughter's confidence has greatly improved, and she sees herself much more capable, and is more confident to take risks in all her learning. She enjoys her time with Pearl, and we are so grateful we found her.

I highly recommend Pro Math Coach to every parent that may have a child who struggles with math in school at any level. Some people may not believe it but I will put our story right here: My child EK was in grad 7 ( middle school ) and having trouble with basic maths. At one point, my husband sat down his little girl to help her with homework and found out that she didn’t even have grade 5 level, and it was almost the end of the school year we couldn’t do anything about it . In September, the following school year, we gave her a homework to find tutors on internet in our area . For some reasons EK found Ms Leong , and there was a picture of a kid in the review wearing a shirt looked similar to her classmate/friend but her face was blurred. EK texted this girl to ask if it was her in the picture and she confirmed. This girl told EK how she was lucky to have her as her tutor. After reading all her reviews, we gave her a call to ask more about her business and technics she uses to teach. She sounded so friendly and knowledgeable, we felt comfortable to book an assessment session with her for the following week . After the session, she informed us that EK had grade 4 level while being in grade 8. It sounded devastating but it was true . So we purchased a rescue package from her in September of 2021. Guess what, we are in March 2022, EK is at the same level as other kids in her class and getting B+ A in math now . Also, she is confident doing equations and calculus these days . she won’t need any extra support in high school because she caught up everything. Yes , her package is expensive for an average person like me but I don’t regret anything it is worth it. My daughter was not among the kids selected to have extra support in math next year when they go in high school. I appreciate you Ms Leong.

If you don’t want to waste time, money and tears, I recommend Pro Math Coach. She is gentle yet effective, and best of all she’s also a BC certified teacher. We looked at math centers like Kumon and Mathnasium, but didn’t feel like they adjust their teaching style to match individual kids. I also didn’t want to overwhelm our child with 5 pages of math homework (Kumon) everyday on top of his own school work and extracurriculars. When I mean Pearlynne is effective, I mean that she gives less homework than Math centers but achieves better results. I also felt 1 on 1 tutoring was more effective for math, but didn’t feel like a high school student/university student Tutor had enough experience to help fill in the gaps. What I liked: + She is patient, attentive motivating. As a parent herself, I feel like she understands children on a different level. + She also offers classes on Zoom - so convenient if you live far from the Tricities. + only gives homework when the child is ready and confident to take on a new concept + Responsive - communication is always easy + showers your child with praise and encouragement ***Highly recommend AT LEAST taking her 1 hour assessment and chatting with her to see if she is the right fit. I felt like I had nothing to lose, so we signed up for the assessment, watched how she interacted with our child, and chatted over what we were looking for and how she would approach it.
