Point Grondine Park

Ontario's best kept secret. Beautiful Park, with very friendly management. We spent there several days canoeing. One of the best places we have been.

Very nice paddle! Fairly easy to do, & family-friendly. Stayed at site C2. Only 2 portages (1 over a road, the other around Wentagoosh Falls), & a couple of carry-overs at 2 beaver dams to get there. Also paddled thru about 2km of swamp so bring insect repellent!

Great park, can't wait to return.

I suggest you rent a canoe from the park as you will have to walk down a 1.5km trail to the base of the lake. We were able to avoid transporting a canoe down to the water, which saved time, as their canoes + paddles are at the base of the lake. We ended up staying at C5, then headed to CC10 off Georgian Bay for 2 nights. It was very scenic and if you get on the water by 9AM, the water is much easier to paddle in. The water can get choppy, so we found morning paddles a lot more enjoyable (and efficient!). Happy camping everyone :)

Great starting point for those who either want a day trip out multi day trip into the wilderness of Canadian Shield near Killarney Provincial Park. You have a choice of a single full day or 2 day trek. You should heed the warnings provided as the treks are not easy.

There are few trails I've encountered in this area that have surprised me like the ones at Point Grondine Park. While they are more challenging than some of the more frequently traveled hikes you might have tried nearby, the terrain and views varied, stretching from wider paths though stands of oak, to lakeside climbs, rocky vitsas, and beaver pond bridges. I'm excited to explore the other gems this Park holds!

My husband and I spent two nights in the park after canoeing about 3 hours to our site. We selected site C3 and I can't rave enough about the majestic views and well-kept nature of this site. Throughout the entire park we were amazed at how well-maintained the sites and routes were. Day 1 we met our trail guardian at the trail head, where we left our car and had killarney outfitters drop our boat. We then hopped in the truck with PGP trail Guardian Moses, and he drove us to a closer access point on a private piece of land. Moses was well prepared to answer all our questions and really reassured us as this was our first canoe trip. We then canoed across a large lake for about 45 minutes taking in the scenery, little did we know the views were about to get 20x better throughout the trip. The first portage is very short and took us only about 15 minutes, 100% doable for first timers. We then canoed through a couple KM of lily pads, had to shimmy over a beaver dam and then we found ourselves at the second portage. The terrain was a bit more difficult because we had to carry the supplies over various levels of rocks but the views made the stop so worth it! We spent about 45 minutes here just amazed at the beauty of this park. Once we got back in the canoe it was only a couple minutes before we saw the first site. We saw a small group set up and continued on to site three. When we arrived we were thrilled at the landscape of our site, cliff side right along the river. Our first night we explored the surrounding land a bit and settled in for a camp fire and sandwiches. The best thing about canoeing opposed to our usual backpacking trips was that we could bring a whole cooler with yummy treats instead of living off the freeze-dried meals for the nights we were there. We slept peacefully under the stars the first night, excited for another day in the park. Day 2. we woke up to the most beautiful layer of fog hanging close to the water. We enjoyed breakfast over the fire and hot tea and then geared up for a nice day paddle to explore the rest of the park. We canoed for a few hours trying to find the portage to make our way over the bay and couldn't figure it out, luckily we didn't feel like we were missing much because the lakes we paddled through were gorgeous. We made our way back to our site and enjoyed lunch and some sun bathing on the rocky shore. That night the stars put on a real show for us, we've been out west multiple times for the stars and we think point grondine rivaled those montana skies. WOW. Day3. we woke up early and broke down our site and started the journey back. The paddle back was much shorter because the current was in our favor and we didn't need to reference the map as much. We found the green gazebo and brought all our gear canoe onto land. Now this was our only let down of the whole trip. The hike back to the trail head was absolutely gruesome. We had to make two trips in order to carry the canoe and all our gear and the cooler. It was very warm at the time but we couldn't take off our layers because the bugs were so vicious. When we finally made it back to the car after two trips our bodies were covered in large red bumps from all the bites. If the park can somehow better warn of this portion of the trip or plan an alternative, our trip would have been too good to be true. This nice hike definitely brought us back to reality. But once we got out of the woods we were still so happy we tried this park out and we will most certainly be back. I would highly recommend site c3. Also, worth mentioning, I was very worried about bears and wild life. We didn;t encounter any trouble. If you properly hang your food you too should have no issues. We have been in the rocky mountains, the allegheny, along the colorado river and more. I can honestly say this park blew them all out of the water. ABSOLUTELY BREATHE TAKING

We did the 21km falls trail. For the most part it was very enjoyable and the views were phenomenal. We were welcomed by Winona upon our arrival who briefed is with an orientation and ensured that we were all set to go. Our first site we stayed at was H2, one of the premium sites. The site was large and beautiful, sitting on a rocky outcrop to the lake. We did not use the wooded platform as it did not work with our tent, but there was still plenty of room elsewhere. We stayed at this site for a day and a half and had a great time. Our second site was H7, the other premium site. This site did not live up to our expectations after coming from H2. It was still a decent site but a lot smaller. It was located at the bottom of a forest and had a swampy water front section that made the mosquitoes very bad. Due to the bugginess we only stayed at this site one night opposed to the original 2 that we planned. The trail had a lot of new growth as a result of a fire we were told happened a few years ago. The trail in some sections did not look too well traveled and so we had to backtrack a few times to reconnect with the trail. A few more trail signs could be beneficial to support some of the trail sections to be clear of the direction. Overall we had a great time. Would definitely like to try the canoe routes in the future.
