I called many times and finally spoke to a woman who said the chimney cleaner would call me back NO REPLY

My home inspector brought Peter Diernegger along to do the WETT cert for the home I was making an offer on. Peter told me the wood stove was in good shape, it was a decent stove, and that the only issue was the apron was too short in the front. Once I got that rectified, I was to send him photos proving it'd been done and he'd send me the WETT Cert. As soon as I moved in, I brought in Original Heat & Gas to do an estimate to extend (or replace) the apron. They took one look at the stove and told me it was dangerous and not WETT certifiable! They said the sides were warped from excessive heat, all the fire bricks inside were missing, and the apron was too short in front. They informed me that brand, "Heritage" had gone out of business over 10 years ago. I then got a second opinion and they too concurred the stove was not safe. Had Peter provided a competent inspection, I could have either offered less for the house or arranged for the owners to replace or share the cost of a new wood stove as part of the offer. Instead, it wound up costing me $5,000 to tear out the old one and have a new stove, apron and chimney installed after I'd (unknowing) already bought the house. It also complicated getting home insurance on the house as they wouldn't insure it without a WETT cert which was now delayed pending a brand new wood stove installation. Peter would not return my calls nor respond to the letter I sent requesting all or at least part of my money back, and, when I called the home inspector who had brought Peter along that day, he said he'd called Peter, that Peter's back was up and that he'd said some unpleasant things and that I would not be getting any money back. I made the mistake of paying Peter cash. Besides Peter, I had 4 other witnesses present that day (me, the inspector, my real estate agent and my agent's husband), who were standing right there with me when Peter reported that the apron was the only issue. I am considering Small Claims Court. Don't use this guy! If you decide to risk it, DON'T PAY CASH upfront - get a written report BEFORE you pay him.
