Our Last Hope Animal Rescue Society

Our Last Hope Animal Rescue Society is a volunteer run organization. I was, therefore, so happy that I got a real live person on the phone when I called about my application. Jeneane is so easy to talk - we talked over the course of a week and if I got voicemail I got a call back in a very reasonable time. She was kindly up front about the process of reviewing applications and how important it is to match a dog with the right family – that some people will be disappointed but they would help us find the right dog if this one was not for us. After all a dog has been through, or even when a puppy is just starting out its life, of course it is important that the match works for dog and human alike. Our family has had a dog from a breeder, another two rescues, and now we are OLHARS alum. One of our previous rescues came from a less reputable place. The difference in using an organized, caring and careful rescue is huge. Our previous rescue was underweight, the vet records were not real, the dog was beyond nervous, and it took a very long time to get her to a place where she was healthy and comfortable and to consider a furry sibling for her. Our rescue from OLHARS came to us with a real vet visit including wellness and vaccinations, he was used to a crate, and he was confident. He of course had the expected adjustment time (OLHARS has good information on that on their website) to a new environment but right from the start it was a positive experience. His confidence in people and himself allowed him to learn commands and where to toilet very quickly. He has fit into our family perfectly – just as Jeneane and his beloved foster had predicted. We will always be so grateful to OLHARS, to Jeneane and the whole team, not only for our wonderful new family member but for a really positive experience in the adoption process.

We had recently lost one of our dogs to cancer, and were looking for another dog to join our home. Our Last Hope Animal Rescue Society had this little guy, PJ, available. we knew we had the right home for him, so did the rescue. You see, a previous attempt to adopt him out failed, the rescue was very careful about whom and where he could next be adopted. With many conversations we determined, PJ would fit here. Personally, I am involved with another rescue, however due to COVID, decided to adopt closer to home. OLH was very generous with their time, and adoption fees only collected after you know the right home is yours. As a person involved in rescue, I know it is a monumental effort to contact everyone, volunteers can only reach out to so many people. The right people don't give up, they send in an application and follow it up. Those writing bad reviews for lack of communication don't understand the amount of work and effort rescue requires...and it is mostly by volunteers and requires donations to to pay vet bills. OLH is outstanding in my opinion.

We adopted Chico from Our Last Hope 3 years ago. It was an awesome experience, we took our older boy along to the meet and greet and Oscar picked Chico as his furever friend. We were notified quickly as a possible home. We were also given time for both boys to adjust. From day one we have been extremely happy and will definitely recommendOur Last Hope to anyone looking to adopt

We adopted our baby boy from OLHAR in 2012, after we had graduated from college and started our new lives into adulthood. The rescue was responsive and professional. We even contacted them throughout Ramzi’s (our dog) time with us. We loved him so much and are forever grateful that we got to be his forever home. They really do try their best, but I think during current pandemic times with more applications for fostering, adopting, travel restrictions, etc AND living their own lives, things are probably hectic! We will never forget Ramzi and the honor OLHAR gave to us to be his guardians!! He was my best friend throughout grad school, my first home purchase, a big brother to our second dog, and hiking partner. I will never forget him.

Jeneane is such an amazing person to work with. I placed an application and received a phone call very shortly after. She helped me to find the perfect dog for what I needed (an ESA/ support dog). I have only had my dog, Stewart, for 12 days and he is already amazing us with his behaviours and how quickly he has settled into his new environment. I would recommend OLHARS to anyone who is looking to find their perfect companion.
