About Ngwaagan Gamig Recovery Centre Inc.
Rainbow Lodge commenced operations in the community of Wikwemikong in September 1976 as an alcohol treatment centre. In 1992, the organization incorporated as Ngwaagan Gamig Recovery Centre Inc., and began servicing individuals living with alcohol and drug challenges.
In 2008, we proudly became an accredited organization, and have maintained this status to date through Accreditation Canada.
By 2012, the programs and services were modernized and the treatment centre became recognized as a culturally-based polysubstance abuse treatment facility. And in 2019, and with much collaboration with Wiikwemkoong and other organizations, funding was approved by Indigenous Services Canada, FNIHB, to construct the new healing lodge to provide an expansion of services along the continuum of care. By the end of 2021 the new healing lodge was completed and community members, both Elders and youth, came together and named the new facility Jiingaabe Noojmoo-gamik, Spirit Healing Lodge. It was in early 2022 that we opened our doors to our Residential Treatment clients in our new building.
