Newton's ITF School of Taekwon-do (Markham)

I write this review to help parents out there looking for what I was searching for 1 year ago... When my son was 5yo, I realized moreso the importance of building his self confidence, motivation and discipline. To be honest, I didn't really care what activity that was (martial arts included). So I put him in basketball, teeball, soccer, golfing, gymnastics, skating etc...Sure he had lot of fun doing those, but none of them really delivered on what I was searching for. So when I heard of Newton's open house and 2 free trial classes, I thought, 'why not? No downside, just a couple hours of my time.' Needless to say, I was impressed by the level of attention, care and compassion demonstrated by the instructors (Ms. Newton and Mr. Simmons). It seemed like at the time, they had the what I was searching for to help support building my son's confidence, motivation and discipline. Fast forward 1 year and I can say hands down that those couple of hours was a great use of my time. I have seen a remarkable improvement in my son's confidence, motivation and discipline (and added bonus for me, he actually has the most fun at Taekwondo, of all the activities his does). While it's nice that he's learned a few slick looking martial arts moves ('patterns' as it's called), and self defence, to be honest, he could have learned those at any studio, or even for free on YouTube for that matter. For me, the key difference (or 'learning magic') that comes to life is through the head instructors, Mr. Simmons and Ms. Newton; which I haven't been able to find the same caliber in any other kid activity. I think this is because it's rooted in their genuine passion for developing and teaching their students, through Taekwondo. It's also beneficial for me to know that they are also Owner/Operators, so they definitely have skin in the game (vs. other places that pay someone an hourly wage to instruct) After a long day at school, my son looks forward to learn & train at Newton`s (he even finishes his homework and dinner fast so that he can go). But don`t take my review to make your decision. Just swing by and try (for free), and chat with me or any of the other friendly parents. Who knows? Such an amazing ITF Taekwon-do School! The instructors are professional and fun and filled with a ton of knowledge and experience. They are also the most inspirational team who surround you with their drive and passion for the art! My daughter absolutely loves this place! Highly recommended!

Mr. Simmons and Ms. Newton are world class Taekwon-do instructors with many years of teaching, international competitions and medals under their belts. Their classes are always engaging and motivational. What sets them apart from other great instructors is their creativity in teaching and how they bring in training exercises from other disciplines. Mr. Simmons and Ms. Newton are simply two of the best instructors I've ever met.

I recently Inrolled my child at this incredible school of martial arts. Ms.Newton and Mr.Simmons are great insuctors, you will never find a duo quite like them. The classes they host are, fun filled and disciplined. Your child will not go home without a sweat , nor will they have an unpleasant time. Your child will be exercising along with learning how to defend themselves and they will not even notice because they are doing what they love. I myself could not ask for better insuctors to teach my child. There are also classes six days to help fit your schedule as well as your child’s. Yes your child can train up to 6 days a week as well. *Parents and adults are welcomed to train as well.

Mr. Simmons and Ms. Newton are truly one of the best instructors. They give their heart and soul to teaching ITF Taekwon-Do. They put in all their effort to teach their students. Try a class because I bet you will love it. It might be challenging at first if you’re a beginning, but like everything else, you will only get better with practice and dedication. You will also get stronger and fitter! This is what these instructors will give you - classes and training that are worth every penny.

Wonderful environment, excellent place to learn Taekwondo-do, great for anyone and everyone. Very diverse and friendly atmosphere! Excellent price for what your getting.

Didn't know what to expect but was very happy with what I saw. Parents, etc. are able to view the practice from another room on screens with multiple views. I loved that since the kids aren't distracted by us sitting in the back of the practice area. The instructors are world class, respectful with everyone, however, are capable of being firm when needed (with parents and their kids). The pricing is reasonable, which I expect to be slightly higher but still well affordable once COVID winds down and more people start coming/sending their kids. The attention to each kid and their overall development (not just speaking about it, but paying attention to behaviour, capabilities and weaknesses) is very admirable. I wholeheartedly recommend this place unreservedly.

In having the privilege to train with these two World Class Instructors in my younger years, I was extremely excited to finally hear they were opening their 2nd ITF school in Markham. Both my kids (ages 9 and 6) have been enrolled since day 1, I have personally seen a change in their self-confidence, motivation and behavior. Would definitely encourage anyone to participate in a trial and/or visit to see how well their school is being run!
