About NCHL - Head Office

We started the NCHL because we deeply care about the game and we were tired of playing in other leagues only to run into people who thought they still have a chance to make the show.

All of us have to get up the next morning and go to work, so we changed the rules to give you a better hockey experience. With us you can play hockey in a fun, safe, and yet competitive, environment that promotes and demands respect, character and maturity, equally from all players, men and women.

Life is better with hockey!

I know its tough to run a hockey team, so i can only imagine how difficult it would be to run a league. The staff are always willing to listen and assist when they can. There is no exact science to where to place teams for parity purposes, so sometimes you may need to play against teams much better then your own. However, the team at NCHL will do whatever they can to get the situation resolved. The referees are generally really good as long as you treat them with respect, and the teams that play in the league are generally always well natured.

Run by a great group of guys. Games always run smoothly and the competition is about as evenly matched as you can ask for in a men's league. Easy to join up with new teams and sub on others if you are looking for more ice.

- Expensive ice times compared to other leagues in Edmonton for the time slots you get - No floods every two periods even though you pay for a 1.5hr ice slot - League administration won't contact you about anything once your fees are paid and are hard to get information from, took asking 3 people to get our schedule sent to us - Super small divisions, so you play 3 teams all season or less - Mandatory home and away jerseys, added cost compared to other leagues which only require one - Short season compared to other leagues in Edmonton, only 14 games in the summer vs 16 or more elsewhere, and it costs more! - Would rate lower if possible, would not come back to this league ever.

Fantastic for beginner hockey players. Good rules, good re-tiering process to find you an appropriate div. Yes, there are tiering issues where teams bring in ringers short-term in a bid to win at all costs. But the NCHL is trying to get on top of it and I think are making progress. Toughest thing is probably the late nights of winter adult hockey (most games weekdays 10:30 pm), but that goes away in the summer season (games start between 7 and 9 pm usually).

The NCHL office team has been very helpful in getting me started as a new GM with the league. They have responded to all my questions in a timely and professional manner, without hesitation. I am very impressed with the back end/behind the scene support offered to individuals organizing teams.

First-time in the discover hockey program and NCHL this year and I am loving it! I've played in soccer leagues a long time and feel the NCHL is well-organized. The use of the teamsnap app is great, too. The league seems very focused on fairness, fun and facilitating great games.

The league mentions that they tier however there is no consistent process. Sometimes your re-tiered after 5 games Sometimes 10 or more. It's no fun losing more than 5 games and getting outscored heavily. They also count a few of the games you played in the previous division as part of the standings in the new division which is wrong. Also many teams are really good at the old sandbagger routine, knowing when to dial up or down .Lastly its a non contact hockey league that has more contact than Jr B ! perhaps its the no call hockey league. Improve the league by adjusting divisions every 5 games played and make more calls. The refs are paid to protect player safety. Make the calls

I've played in four Cowtown beer leagues, and I've enjoyed them all. But the NCHL is the gold standard. The most organized, the most established league in town, with the most divisions. If you're newer to the game, try the Discover Hockey program. (I enrolled in it twice.) Then, wait for your next birthday, and treat yourself to a Draft Tournament! You deserve to have a good time.
