About Narratives Inc
John is a Research and Engagement Intern at Narratives Inc. He currently holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Manitoba, majoring in Sociology and minoring in Geography. He is also pursuing a Masters in Economic Development and Innovation from the University of Waterloo, and has joined the Narratives team to complete the internship portion of his graduate education. During his years of study, he has gained a wealth of theoretical knowledge on a variety of relevant socioeconomic and environmental issues, and more recently, has acquired knowledge pertaining to regional economic development practices and frameworks, innovation systems and policies, and sustainable economic development approaches. Exploring these various topics has cultivated his strong interest in research and writing, and he hopes to translate his theoretical knowledge into feasible policy initiatives in the future.
His past work as a research assistant has fostered a passion for pursuing research projects that can deliver meaningful outcomes that can positively impact communities, and allowed him to sharpen his skills in primary and secondary source analysis, qualitative data consolidation, and translating data into more understandable terms. Other past work has allowed him to develop skills in team collaboration, leadership, and client and customer relations. His work at Narratives involves conducting critical qualitative research, the facilitation of community engagement, and contributing to the development of reports, memorandums, and project descriptions, among other tasks.
When away from school and work, John is a devout baseball fan, and enjoys reading, drawing, and going on long walks in his neighbourhood.
