What is Judo?

Meaning "Gentle Way", Judo is an Olympic sport created in Japan by Jigoro Kano where the main objective is to either throw or take downs an opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue an opponent with a grappling maneuver, or force an opponent to submit by joint locking or by executing a strangle hold or choke.

Strikes by either hands or feet are not allowed in the competitive judo practice.

It's a great club. All the people are very friendly and helpful to newcomers. The only reason I'm not going anymore is because I moved away from Winnipeg.

Instructor was very nice he offers free classes and doesn't pressure you to join ASAP. He always interacts with people with a smile. He also does a good job on explaining judo to us especially begginers like me. Friendly environment higher belts takes time to teach the new ones. I honestly recommend this place and try it out

My 6 year old son has been attending once a week for about 6 weeks now. He really enjoys learning new skills and the learning atmosphere is very welcoming of all levels. They group the kids according to their experience level. Sensei Nakamura is very patient yet firm so they respect him. It's a good mix of technique and fun at this age. Check out their website for details. I contacted the dojo for some trial classes before committing as my son had to choose between karate or judo and they easily accommodated by lending him a gi.
