North Island In-Depth: Planned and guided by Mosaic Earth Travel Our experience with Mosaic Earth Travel (MET) was truly outstanding. While they are a fairly new company, they operated at the level of a seasoned travel operator, were well organized throughout, and put their guests’ experience as the top priority. The whale watching was unbelievable – Orcas and humpback whales galore. The sight and smell of sea otters was something as well. We were so well dressed in rain gear which allowed us to enjoy the experience in spite of a day that was coolish with intermittent rain. The float plane ride was truly amazing and an unexpected activity! What a way to see the Broughton Archipelago and Great Bear Rain Forest. I still marvel at the vastness and now understand its importance in preserving the wildlife and our climate. The visit to San Josef Bay (Cape Scott) was stunning. It started with a short hike that gave us good awareness into the development of the forest and old growth trees. Then we emerged on to a huge wind swept beach with mist rolling in. What a sight! Although the water was rather chilly, my wife could not resist and went in for a quick dip. Being in our 60’s, we had some trepidation on the physical activities in particular the kayaking and hiking, but they were most enjoyable and well within our capabilities. MET’s guides were well informed and provided numerous stories, facts, and insights. They managed the itinerary well, keeping us on schedule, and ensuring we had ample time to enjoy each experience. Normally I am a hands on person but within a day I knew I could release my ‘control’ and fully enjoy each activity. One sensitive aspect we wanted to learn more about on the trip was the Residential School experience from the First Nation perspective. MET provided several points of interaction with First Nation people who presented the difficult experience in a constructive manner which left us much more knowledgeable and sensitive to what many had to endure. In considering the trip, MET responded well to all our pre- trip questions and communicated through the process of booking, deposits, and final payments. They also suggested a packing list including recommendations on clothing to keep us warm and comfortable. For those considering a trip in Canada, I would heartily recommend it. You will be amazed at the ‘off the beaten track’ parts of Canada and comforted by the focus that MET has on ensuring you have a most enjoyable time. EJD

Just back from an action packed 8 days with Mosaic Earth Travel to North Vancouver Island and I can’t say enough! There is SO much to see, do and learn in this part of the country…...who knew?! A spectacular journey on all fronts. Many special moments and tons of fun along the way. Everything was amazing! The itinerary was solid, and packed with adventures every day. Nature walks through Old Growth Forests (some of these trees are 1,000 years old!), San Josef Bay with the hugest sandy beach I’ve ever seen, framed with mountains and caves …absolutely breath-taking….our first thought was “are we really still in Canada?!” Sea kayaking (a new and exciting experience for us!), zodiac ride around the tip of the island where we saw many whales, complete with tail flapping….they were definitely putting on a show for us!, sea lions, bald eagles, herons, sea otters…even came across a fisherman skinning an octopus! It rained for a bit but we were all suited up and it only added to the adventure! An amazing float plane ride over the islands……the vastness of beautiful, pristine, untouched land, forests and waterfalls was mind boggling! And 2 days spent at Alert Bay immersed in Indigenous culture and traditions…….we learned so much and gained a greater appreciation for the First Nations’ way of life, their sacred traditions, and their deep sense of family. Were even treated to a native dance ceremony. They are a gentle people who are rooted in their connection to the land and sea. VERY profound experience. Mosaic Earth and their guides were awesome! I can’t say enough about the professional, organized, guest-focused approach that this company has. Very impressive! They left no stone unturned. Many little touches throughout every day that made us feel special, well taken care of, and allowed us to completely relax, unplug and enjoy! Also loved the fact that they partner with local companies and guides, and stay at locally owned lodgings (fabulous BTW!) Who better to show you the depth of beauty of the land, and teach you about indigenous culture? We were welcomed by the locals with open arms. Their desire to share the land, invite us to experience all that it has to offer, as well as teach us about their ways, shone through at every turn. It inspired awe, and respect, and it was truly a privilege to be a part of it. I HIGHLY recommend Mosaic Earth and this trip! We have travelled all over the globe and I can truly say that this one ranks among our top experiences. Many thanks to Pam and her team. You were awesome!! Feeling nourished, energized and motivated to plan our next adventure! We will definitely be looking to join you again!

The team at Mosaic Earth have put together quite the amazing trip to the North Vancouver Island. I was fortunate enough to film the entire trip in August 2021, and not having been to the North Island before, their guides and excursions gave me the opportunity to learn a ton about the local indigenous peoples and their daily lives! The trip was jam packed with amazing food, cultural experiences, and a healthy dose of nature and sustainability education. If you are looking to explore some of these remote locations - I highly recommend the team at Mosaic Earth!

The guided trip of North Vancouver Island was fantastic in every way. The guides were so professional and friendly, and very well-informed about the sites. They took care of all the logistics - the transportation, food and snacks, and water - so we could relax and enjoy the experiences. The sites we visited were breath-taking and all activities were appropriately tailored to our fitness levels. One of the distinctive features of the trip was the educational aspect as learning more about the environment and Indigenous communities and cultures was embedded throughout the trip. We can’t wait for our next trip with Mosaic Earth and couldn’t recommend this company more highly!
