Moon Basin Marina & Cottages

A superb Muskoka/Georgian Bay location for a man-cave type gateways. Affordable, convenient prime fishing spot, with easy boat access to all the possible places where the fish might be on any particular day. We've been coming to this place once or twice per year since 2005. We also tried other cottages on Moon River and Woods Bay but keep returning back to this place because it works best for our needs. Here are the things that make this place our primary choice: - a no frills setup but with all the necessary amenities. Full kitchen, hot shower, clean bathrooms, excellent views, comfy beds with clean linens - daily fishing motorboat rentals that work well for novice boaters - easy-going accommodating owner. No issues with setting up our own charcoal grills, smokers, or a spit-roaster. This is of course in addition to a supplied working gas BBQ - owner has a basic tackle shop items available, and takes care of his rental equipment so there are no issues with things not working or not being available. If there are such items missing from your list of expected items then you probably need to seek a more upscale/expensive location - usually there are no small kids at this place so guys can do what guys do in absence of spouses and little children - two-hours-flat drive from Hwy 401 & Hwy 400 The following are items that a potential renter needs to be aware of: - the access road is rough. Zero problem for any minivan or a stock sedan to get through, but potentially a problem for a squeamish city driver - terrain and water access is not suitable for elderly, disabled or little kids. This is just the nature of this spot surrounded by provincial conservation areas. There are other places in the area that are much more suitable for such visitors. - this is not a free-for-all loud drunken-party spot. Guys come here to fish and hunt, not to get completely wasted. Such visitors will not be tolerated and the place will not be rented to them again - visitors are expected to do the basic clean up after themselves. This is not a luxury retreat where money buys anything. This is a down-to-earth place for a common folk in the spectacular borderlands of Muskoka and Georgian Bay

It's literally in the middle of nowhere but it's very tranquil and super nice. I had originally given this place 5 stars, but now if I could give it zero stars I would. I took a two hour drive to go check out the place and pay for my reservation as discussed on the phone with the owner. When I got there she was not around but I was shown the cottage. When I went to pay for a week's stay which included the labour day weekend, the gentleman that I spoke to, said that he was not comfortable taking my money and to "call on Monday" I called Monday... no answer, I sent emails... no rely. At 3:00am Wednesday morning, I got an email saying "sorry we've had family problems and rented the cottages to a group and can't rent it to you now", " maybe next year". Why would I want to take my chances with them next year seeing that they screwed my vacation plans this year!?!? Are you kidding me!?!? Very unprofessional. Will never attempt to stay here again and I have and continue to warn anyone who may even think about staying here.

Stayed here nice people , nice place , and to the lady who was complaining about her ruined vacation oviosly has never had a family emergency before so maybe should think a bit before putting a bad review on this site ...

We stayed in Cabin #8 as a couple and enjoyed every day. The accommodations were comfortable and clean. My husband loves to fish and pickeral opening date was May 1st...every time he headed out to the basin he caught fish in short time. We will be back!

I love sharing great places in my life. Typically, I would like to keep this one secret, but it's good to share, and after seeing a bad review, well, I had to have a say. I know what happened on the bad review. There was indeed a family emergency and so there should have been a bit more understanding. Moon Basin is my escape for relaxation, being at peace in the outdoors and the most amazing fishing. The cabins are comfortable and well equipped. I have fished the Woods Bay area for over 40 years. Places to stay come and go for different reasons. I have been coming to Moon Basin for about 18 years now. The owners are two of the sweetest people you can meet. If you can't have a good time here, you should stay in the city. The moment I drive out the dirt road to go home, I am already making plans for the next time. I think my pictures tell most of what you can expect. And, I go with my daughter, who will out fish any of you!

Great place to visit!! Beautiful views, lots of fish to find, and if your not into fishing the scenery is just breath taking. A picturesque cascade waterfalls just a short 5 min boat ride. the cottages range from sleeping 2-12 so can meet anyone's needs. The owners run a great business and they are always willing to give a couple tips on the good fishing spots! Thanks again for another wonderful weekend!!! See you next year!
