Matsqui Stables Inc - Abbotsford

Just started boarding here with my two geldings and I’m really liking it! Denise has been awesome and has even helped me with one of my geldings which I love helping eachother out. Also feels really “homey” and everyone is super friendly and nice!

I just googled horseback riding and this was my first result, but when I sent them a message, they said that they only offer boarding for horses. They responded quickly, so I'm giving them 5 stars, but I give google search no stars! I'm writing this review so maybe others doing a similar search will see it and look elsewhere.

Started riding here with Denise when I was 5 years old, I am now almost 18 and still pleased with her services. She has always been such an amazing coach and barn manager. She takes amazing care of her boarders and always has a smile on her face. Horses are fed on time and well loved. Such a beautiful facility to board your horse at with all the amenities you need!

Beautiful facility but unfortunately owner only cares about aesthetics not about horses. Sadly my experience here wasn’t very pleasant. Matsqui stables has been re-opened for just over a year now.. since re-opening we’ve had 2 horses stuck in the hay feeder, 4 horses stuck in the fencing, 1 horse broke its leg due to the isle, 1 horse died due to poorly designed and unmaintained stall walls provided by the owner of Matsqui stables, 2 horses coliced one of the two being mine, due to chores being left to the responsibility of children and not double checked by adults. Many concerns about facility safety brought to owners attention but she took it as a personal attack. Owner is unprofessional and hard to communicate with. If you are looking into the facility for hunter or jumper discipline it may not be fit for you as owner runs it as a hobby farm and not a sport horse facility although she does charge premium prices for non premium care. Owner of facility does not want people on her property for more than few hours a day, as this is her “home”. When confronted will post about it on social media then attack you for “causing drama”. Multiple animals have died on property due to poor care, cats, horses, cattle, etc. She will let her dogs attack the cats/kittens, and other dogs. I watched her previously stand there with her husband while they watched her two dogs aggressively attack each other and didn’t put a stop to it for about 2 minutes. So many things wrong with this facility and how it’s run I could go on for days. Boss mare has spoken.

I've been boarding at this facility almost for a year now and I've never boarded at a more inclusive, positive and well run barn in my 8 years in the industry. Denise and her family are always working on improving the facility and making all the horses as comfortable as possible.

Nice peacefull place. It is a multidisciplinary barn with no trainer at facility. No egos or drama that come with a training barn. Horses super happy with no chaos. Owners keep the place nice and tidy and well maintained. No leaking roof nor smoking on premises and footing in both arenas is very good. I come to the barn to find peace and to enjoy being with my horses and have found that here. Da Black Sheep.

It’s a very loving, drama free facility and I always feel well at home, Denise has always made me feel welcome and like I’m apart of the family. It is a multidisciplinary barn and all trainers are welcome. It is a super clean and tidy facility with happy humans and even happier horses! 2 beautiful arenas with great footing! If your looking for a drama free facility with top care for your horse(s) Matsqui Stables is the place to be!

Boarded our horse here for a month and they kicked us out, all because my daughter texted some of the ladies there and wanted to be friends. Well that’s what Kimberley says, but who knows if that’s true. We did not break any part of the boarding contract. So my daughter apologizes and then she apologized to Kimberley, who is taking care of the place while Denise is in Texas, and her response back to my daughter is please don’t message me. DO NOT BOARD YOUR HORSE HERE.
