Marianna's Alterations - Calgary

After having three other places tell me they couldn’t do my alterations on my evening dress I needed for the symphony on the weekend, I found Marianna online and gave her a call. I took my dress in on Tuesday afternoon and picked it up Friday afternoon. I’m about two sizes smaller in my torso compared to my hips, so I had to have the dress taken in and the straps/bust/back area raised. She did such a good job without it looking like it was altered and it fits perfectly. She even made the fitting and pinning part quick and not awkward. Her prices are very reasonable as well. She has an amazing skill with over 30 years of formal Ed and experience and deserves to be paid accordingly and has overhead costs to cover.

DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING YOU CARE ABOUT TO THIS SHOP. I took in a backless wedding dress to have very minor alterations done to it as it was slightly loose in the bust. The Asian woman who measured and pinned me was very nice. I should have reconsidered when I was told it would be over $400 for what I thought would be a simple alteration, but I did want a quality job, so I thought paying more would ensure this. However when I tried the dress on after the alterations the sides of my breasts were visible, and should I lift my arms my nipples would likely come out of the dress as the bust area was still loose. I told my concerns to the owner of the store, who responded rudely that what did I expect "this is the style of the dress". When asked if there was anything she could do she said no but did offered to add a strap that would go across my back. When my mother in law asked if we would have to pay for the additional strap she rudely responded "what do you think?". We left the store as soon as possible as it was clear she had no desire to help us. As I have no experience with alterations I thought my dress was likely unwearable based on her "expert" opinion. However, I just returned from a dressmaker who told my that my dress was basically ruined by how the alterations were done, the fabric was taken from the wrong place and I probably lost 2 inches that should be there to cover the side of my chest. He will be able to fix it, but there still won't be as much coverage due to the previous alterations. He is also adding a bustle, adding a button to the zipper, and aforementioned alterations - for $220. In short - Don't take your wedding dress anywhere unless you have had a personal reference, and don't assume more money means a better job.

I contacted Marianna for a very last minute alteration on a bridesmaid dress after being refused by multiple places. Not only was she able to do my alteration in an extremely timely manner, but she also did a fabulous job, the dress fits perfectly. Along with the quality work she did, she has so much kindness, patience, and compassion, while other places were quite condescending. I highly recommend her. I had to get a prom dress altered and only had a 1.5 days to get it done. Marianna let me get a fitting right away and finished the dress perfectly on time. She was very friendly and professional. The dress looked like it was made for me once she finished, the stitching was seamless and well done. I would definitely recommend her to friends!

I have been taking my alterations to Mariana for over 7 years now, and I trust no one else with my clothing. Mariana is always professional, efficient and upfront about costs and production time. Because my husband and I renew our wedding vows each year, I have taken several gowns (formal and informal) to her for tailoring. She has also assisted me with numerous alterations for my work dresses and slacks. Thanks to her creativity, I now have a custom shawl made out of my family’s tartan and faux fur. There really is no task too big for Mariana, and she always loves a good challenge. I highly recommend her for any and all alterations!

I needed some patches sewn on my military uniform for the following day and 24 hours later I picked it up! Very fast turn around, good prices and very friendly! Definitely recommend.

I was in desperate need for alterations as i purchased a suit last minute for a wedding. She got it done in time for the event & it was perfect. Fitted just how I wanted. Other places are often to big still or smaller then I wanted. Would definitely recommend and go to her again.

I had her replace the zippers in both an ice fishing jacket and bib overalls. She did an excellent job on the replacement of the zippers. Initially I thought it was a little pricey until I seen the final work. The zippers look like they were done at the factory. I would recommend and use them again if I have additional sewing or alterations.
