Leavitt Machinery was founded in 2001 by Tom Leavitt. Originally a General Manager for Finning, Tom was in charge of their material handling division. After a decade in this position, Tom proposed a list of changes to Finning for this department. He believed these changes would lead to increased success and growth going forward. He also stated that if Finning wasn’t willing to make these changes, they should consider selling the division. After some consideration, Finning asked Tom to make an offer. Months later, a deal was struck, and Leavitt Machinery was born.

In the following years, Leavitt Machinery became the official dealer for many trusted brands. They also added a complete parts and service department to support every unit they sold. Finally, they added a comprehensive training division to provide operators with proper instruction on safe operating practices. This allowed Leavitt Machinery to become a one-stop shop for all applications and operations.

In 2014, Tom Leavitt was named the EY Entrepreneur of The Year for the Pacific region. This award celebrates those who are building and leading successful, growing, and dynamic businesses. Tom was named the winner in the Business to Business Products and Services category. This success was not earned by Tom alone, as he attributes this growth to the team that has supported him.
