Last West Outfitting

I am following up on some significant issues experienced by myself and the group of people I was with during a hunting trip organized by Last West Outfitting. I have been on guided hunting and fishing tours my whole life. Generally, they have all been great experiences – not once have I ever had to follow up regarding bad service. I would not complain about minor issues either as I understand that things sometimes get missed or don’t go according to plan. After this recent tour with your company I felt compelled to follow up in writing as this was by far the worst experience across the board for lodging, food and service. On the first day we arrived it started with a rude greeting from Franck after one of the individuals in our group asked him where he was from because he noticed an accent. Franck’s reply was “why are you asking” and nothing was said after that. This seemed to set the bar for the tone of the rest of the trip. Personality aside, Franck provided poor communication about the plan for each day. He didn’t provide it in advance or give a clear explanation about what we could expect or what would be happening next – because of this we didn’t know where we had to go or where we had to be which resulted in us being late both days and everyone being rushed. There were also unprofessional comments made by Franc to our group… on one day he took one of the guys walking around during which time a deer jumped out – the individual tried to get his gun out quickly but was not fast enough and subsequently missed the deer. Rather than providing advice or encouragement which would be typical and appropriate in that situation, Franck started making comments about how he could have shot that deer 10 times over in the same span of time and began insulting the individual’s hunting skills. Later that afternoon the same individual missed a deer and Franc again made fun of him for missing his shot. Later that afternoon we realized that the gun’s sight was out by 4 feet and we attempted to correct it. While doing this he called us stupid for where we set up the test yet only moved the target 4 feet away himself. While hunting Franck got upset about the idea of hunters leaving their tree stand to walk around and warm up saying that we ruined the area and that now the area was off limits. Strangely, the next day he didn’t want us hunting as a group of four and decided it was fine to go back to the area he previously said was off-limits. At various points we left the areas we were in due to cold temperatures to warm up and explore – Franck was unhappy about that and asked us to leave his camp the second night because we would not listen to him and tell him our whereabouts ever moment of the day. The food provided was horrible, the first night we had hot dogs… 2 of the buns were mouldy... the second night we were given frozen lasagna. All of our sandwiches both days were relish, baloney, and cheese.The accommodations were disappointing – we were in a small 15 x 20 cabin with four guys where only three of us got beds. The last guy got a hunting mattress with no bathroom for $500 each a day which doesn’t seem like good value – especially in light of everything else. Franck watched me gut the deer I got in another area, not in his area because there was nothing to be found in any of his locations. His spots were a 10 second walk off a road and all of them were overgrown trees on a cut line. I’m not the best hunter myself but any hunter could have seen that the spots Franck brought us to were not ideal. Our group paid for 3 days and Franck will not reimburse us for the third day since we were told to leave on the evening of the second day. I’m not saying that Franck is a bad guy, he’s just very green and his people skills are lacking (not to mention his terrible cooking skills). We’re now fighting to get this money back. Last West Outfitting had 5 stars on Google (albeit only one review) and the review mentions great teamwork – honestly we saw nothing of great teamwork… quite the opposite.

I took a hunt didnt know what i was in for cause it was my first deer outfitter. Franck is very knowledgable about the deer, the way they act, and the land. Ive learned so much from him, things i wouldnt think of, and for this reason i harvest a beautiful 11 point buck and a nice male coyote. The cabin were i stayed was above expectations and felt like home. The food was amazing, and his family were also awesome very amazing people, made you feel welcome. You can tell that Franck put in alot the time and effort to try and give you the best chance of success. He has great equipment as well to help your succeed. Franck will not lead you wrong. It was one of my best hunting trips and would do it again hands down. Hats off to his hard work and time to make my hunt perfect. Big thank you to Franck and Family.
