★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We saw Christian’s postings on Craigslist and decided to get a quote for custom maple kitchen countertops. We were planning to get the stock wood countertops from the big box stores as they were quite reasonably priced. But I was so pleasantly surprised that Christian’s quote was only a few percent higher. For that we got oversized peninsula counter with no seams and a large U-shaped counter with two short seams. Christian provided a great quote, kept to delivery date, produced high quality counters and gave very helpful advice that allowed us to install & finish the counters ourselves. We are extremely pleased with Christian’s professionalism and quality of his product. I am a very discerning customer who makes sure I get best quality and value with anything I buy. I whole-heartedly recommend Christian for all custom woodworking projects.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ In November 2014 I ordered a custom black locust butcher-block countertop from Lafor, unfinished, for our kitchen renovation. After it arrived I eased the edges with sandpaper, applied the necessary-for-warranty coats of sealant (seven of them if I recall correctly; pure tung oil and real pine turpentine in my case), added a few more coats for good measure, and installed it. (They also offer pre-finished wood counters, I just like doing some of the work myself.)
Here we are, eight years later, and the countertop is quite literally as good as new. Some scars from use, of course, but I knew I'd be making scars going in — it's wood, after all, not adamantium — and besides, I like stuff to show its history.
But far more importantly, not a single seam or face joint on the countertop has failed. It remains as solid as a rock and is a pleasure to use daily.The polyurethane glue they use is waterproof, which surely helps with longevity; and I mounted it to the cabinets with permanently flexible silicone adhesive, versus screws, which lets the wood contract and expand freely as the humidity changes. That also guards against cracking and splitting. But honestly, the quality of the original construction is probably the main reason it has held up so well. It is beautifully-well made.
Lafor does great work at a more than fair price, and I'm happy to recommend them.

I decided that I wanted to explore the idea of a butcher block style desk and gave Christian @ Lafor a call after getting a recommendation through a friend. Christian was extremely helpful and professional in providing guidance on the wood species, finish and detail work of the piece I had dreamed up. Christian was very quick getting back to me and provided me with a competitive quote. He even worked with me on a VERY unreasonable timeline and delivered a quality piece which my wife and I are very happy with.
