Ki Mana Acres - Creston

Ki Mana Acres started as a Market Garden in 2018, on a sandy, plateau in Erickson BC. After a trip around the globe, jumping from one Farm Workaway to another I came back to my home town inspired to grow food for people. A vegetable garden was an easy entry point into the business and a quick way to get my hands in the dirt. The first year was full of trial and error, back breaking work, and long days. Doing everything myself was a challenge, but I enjoyed the grind! By the end of the summer I was tired and beat, but I was 100%, all-in, obsessed with this lifestyle. That first year gave me confirmation, farming was what I would be doing for the rest of my life!

After that first season, in the late summer of 2018, I met Jenna, my wife. She quickly became my biggest supporter and jumped in with two feet on what would quickly become "our dream", to one day own our own farm out in the beautiful area of Lister BC. We shared the same vision, and we both would discuss ways to take this farm business to the next level. That next season in 2019 we both gave it everything we had, and transitioned our business model from a market garden, to a Lettuce Mix operation. We hired our first employee and started selling to Grocery Stores, Restaurants and Wholesalers. Ki Mana Acres began to take off!

Now that the Greens Enterprise was established, there was an attraction to raising animals on pasture in a way that really aligned with our farming values. The winter leading up to 2020 was full of new business ideas and planning for the 3 new animal enterprises we would add to our operation that spring!

Pasture Raised - Heritage Pigs, Meat Chickens and a flock of Egg Layers. That season we implemented our new systems and ontop of the Lettuce Mixes we were able to offer Pork, Chicken and Eggs! Our feedback was brilliant, customers from all over the Kootenays loved our products and the way the animals were raised! We sold out quickly that first year and knew we needed more land to expand these Livestock enterprises..

January 2021 - We purchased our dream farm out in Lister BC!!

Our hard work had paid off and we officially had land to call our own and start our life together on. But the hard work was yet to come!

With all this access to untouched pasture we quickly expanded our Lettuce, Pork, Egg and Meat Chicken opertations and bought our first herd of Angus/Galloway Beef Cattle. We took on new Wholesale Customers and extended our reach to people all over the East and West Kootenays. This was a big building year, lots of new infrastructure, lots of new customers, many challanges, but tons of fun! With our new systems in place, we are looking forward to the winter, when we can spend more time together, relax a bit more but continue to plan for the 2022 season! Big things are coming!
