The father of two children and husband to my beautiful wife, my passion for food began as a child watching my parents run a successful restaurant. 18 years later, I’ve encountered many mentors; however, my parents remain my number one inspiration.

Even as a child, I realized that good food and great service has the power to make people happy, and that is my vision for ke Charcoal. I want to share my passion and my unique take on Japanese cuisine, and use it to entertain our eclectic group of customers.

For first-timers to ke Charcoal, I recommend our Yakitori special. With the smoke from our charcoal grill and the succulent oils that drip onto the meat, it’ll feel like you’re in the heart of Shinjuku.

Thank you for visiting ke Charcoal, and we hope to see you again.

It's a busy place! It was a Tuesday evening and we waited about 15 minutes. Staff are very friendly. I've been waiting for awhile to try and was so excited. The food was super tasty. Lamb chop and beef tataki was my favorite. We tried a lot!! Jspanese Oysters delicious, Angus beef delicious, prawns with mayo delicious, seafood fried rice delicious, special rolls delicious..basic rolls delicious, grilled meats delicious....you get the idea. Did i mention we were only 2 adults and a toddler? Anyway, this place is a must try. We'll be back!

when we got in we were seated right away! the staff was very friendly and brought our food at decent pace, despite it being really busy at the time! The prices were reasonable and the food was really good! (The ke bun was delightful.) You can either get your food cooked on stone grill or charcoal grill, right in front of you! Great ambiance too and tons of beverage and cocktail options!

Personally I think this is the best sushi in the city, for quality, price point & portion. Love the unique Philly and jalapeΓ±o rolls. Huge sashimi that matches their rolls.. Large open kitchen & rooftop patio.

Ke Charcoal Grill & Sushi is a Japanese restaurant that serves many dishes. They provide sushi, skewered meat, noodle soups and more! The location of the restaurant is convenient. Located right on 14th street allows the restaurant to be accessed by many. However, parking can be difficult. There are little to no parking stalls. Meaning that customers will usually park on neighborhood streets. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great. They have a bar area, a table area and an upstairs are. Each are provides a different feel. The bar area has the chefs preparing food right in front of them. The table area is close to the bar area. As it is a little further away from the chefs, it allows for a busy restaurant feel. The upstairs area is more isolated. It has a lower noise level, allowing for customers to have a more intimate and private meal. The food was great. The noodle soups had lots of flavor. The sushi was fresh and didn't taste old. The meat was well seasoned. The skewers are quite filling. Occasionally, some of the pork belly skewers were charred. So it did provide a burnt flavor. Which can make it hard to eat. The beef and chicken were not dry. Each of them were tender and juicy. The noodle soup portion was a little small. However the flavors definitely did not lack. The service was fantastic. Even if a customer is seated in the upstairs area, there is always a server up there. The food came out hot and quick. The price can be a little expensive for a night out. However, it may be reasonable depending on how much you eat. Ke Charcoal Grill & Sushi is a great place to go when you are looking for some Japanese skewers. They provide many suffering atmospheres. So there is hopefully something for everyone. Definitely will be coming back for their daily specials!

So apparently the restaurant actually used to be arthouse, so that explains why the layout is super dope! It’s got two floors and rooftop patio, and if I’m not mistaken, they do private parties on the second floor! I really liked the exposed kitchen as well. I ordered a number of dishes and literally nothing disappointed me! Some of my favourites were the Signature Truffle Prawn Tempura Roll, Charcoal Grilled Lamb Chops, the TRUFFLE OIL that came with the Truffle Shrimp Tempura, P-Toro (pork belly), Negi Maki (bacon wrapped green onion), Negima (chicken & green onion), and Kawa (chicken skin)! I wasn’t in the mood for sushi that day, but I was extremely impressed with the quality of ingredients used in the Tempura Roll, especially the salmon. I must give points for their plating and pairing! I noticed that every dish has that extra little something that enhances the flavour profile and presentation. Considering this place has a lot of smaller dishes, almost everything ordered was plated beautifully. Whether it’s the truffle oil on the side or a fried garlic garnish, the attention to detail was noteworthy. My only minor complaint, is that the servers weren’t that confident, and knowledgeable in the menu. I had a couple questions regarding certain dishes and the server really couldn’t answer, nor make an effort to get the answer from other staff. The server that delivered our food and took our payment seemed rather nervous, so it did make some of the transactions a bit awkward. But they were all very nice though, and it’s possible they are a bit rusty from being closed for a while.

Innovative menu as it incorporates both traditional sushi, sashimi and rolls along with grilled foods. Excellent grilled vegetable items such as okra, zucchini, broccolini, in addition to the beef ribs, beef finger, etc. Parking difficult (be prepared to circle around the block a few times before finding a spot) and beef ribs a bit fatty. Would still definitely repeat and recommend.

Really enjoyable experience, food was excellent, fresh, and great portions. The beef and lamb chops on the hot stone were so tender and delicious paired with their own special sauces! Also the lobster Miso was excellent as was the made in house ice cream!
