This laboratory has recently been exposed by an undercover investigation (made public by CTV news) for painful, unnecessary abuse toward animals. The video footage shows animals being thrown into cages forcefully, dogs (beagles) being hit multiple times unnecessarily, and an employee admitting participating in horrible, abusive treatment of animals. This lab should be monitored PROPERLY by an outside inspector. How anyone could participate in this horrendous behavior (in the name of science or not) is beyond my comprehension.

Although great progress was made over the last decade regarding alternatives to animal use in scientific research, there is currently no total replacement for it. Alternatives are now widely used in the preliminary phases of pharmaceutical research. ITR and other labs in Quebec and around the world use such lab-based techniques widely. However, the law currently requires for any potential medication to be tested on animals and on humans before it gets approved by the agencies (be it the FDA in the US, Health Canada, OECD in Europe, the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare...etc.). Therefore, all medications for the treatment of cancer, HIV, asthma, MS (and other neurodegenerative diseases), and other horrible diseases have to be tested prior to being approved for use in humans or in animals (for veterinary drugs). These tests include cell based assays, animal tests and human tests. Once again, this is the law. It is our responsibility as a scientific community to make sure that these tests are done in the most humane manner possible. This is what we have been doing at ITR over the last 29 years. As for any lab around the world, there is always room for improvement. ITR has tremendously improved on this front and in general every single year since they were first founded in 1989. I am extremely proud to be part of this team, dedicated to improve the lives of humans, pets and other living creatures around the world by allowing safe medication to be available on the market to treat diseases.

Stem cell research is possible. At this point, testing on animals is legal and cheaper. For those reasons, I understand why they do it, but it is morally wrong to test on an animal that is helpless and can’t fight for themselves. Rats, mice, dogs, primates or monkeys... doesn’t matter. I truly feel for the lab techs that do this. They must just disconnect from everything while doing these tests. Sad... and I get everyone saying it’s for the humans. We all have tendencies to think of the here and now and not understand the repercussions of future generations. I hope that we can be smarter for future generations; make the right choices. I have hope in my generation. I think we can teach our children how to live, ethically. Hopefully ITR can do the same in time. Never too late to change.

I am proud of having studied specifically to care for and work with animals because I love those so much!!! I have 7 cats that I rescued from the outdoor; lost, new born without families, sick and I will continue to do so because I love animals!!! But I believe in good science also and testing human and veterinary drugs on animals is a necessary step in drug development. Necessary to have safe drug for those that need it, it can't be replaced despite what some say, it is ignorance! Don't listen without reading about the laws on drug development, there are no replacement in MOST cases and when it is the case we do conduct those replacement studies instead of using animals. Read about the 3Rs, replacement, refinement and reutilization; it is what guides our use of animals for every project we do. I am proud to say I have worked in preclinical and clinical CROs for over 30 years and contributed to save so many human AND ANIMAL LIVES by the participation to put safe drugs on the market! Think of this next time you take an advil or you vaccinate your animal...

The worst place to work, they give position to people without any relevant education as a study director, and they messed up the studies. The people who write the good review is working now in this company, and some of them even do not know that somebody write a review on behalf of them. The situation of the animals is critical in this company, and nobody care about them.

We would all be happy if animal testing was no longer necessary. Unfortunately, in 2018, this is not the case and we are still many years away until we can produce non-animal models to test the safety of every single new drug before administering them to humans for the first time. As of 2018 the government regulatory agencies that approve new drugs to the market (not ITR!) require animal testing. Please get all the facts straight before making up your mind. No one at ITR hates animals or is a heartless psycho, and no ITR employee deserves the abuse proliferated below. This place is filled with dedicated, compassionate professionals that genuinely love animals (95% of which are mice and rats by the way, which most “ordinary” people wouldn’t touch with a 10 foot pole) and we all give our best day in and day out so that the animals get the best and most humane experience while in our care.

We, in the scientific community, know that at the moment there is no complete replacement for animal research. We know that drug safety testing in animals is mandated by law. We know that animal models have provided an important tool to help make the decision to take potential therapies from preclinical studies to humans. We all love animals and science but above all else we love humans, and we at ITR are proud to be part of an industry that saves lives every single day.

Many of the 5 star reviews argue that FDA requires test on animals before humans but treating animals, especially dogs in the most inhumane way ever doesn't justify your cruel actions. I hope you go out of business one day.
