About Islet Lake Staging Area

There are no laws prohibiting the use of metal detectors in the public areas of provincial parks as long as the activity isn’t interfering with the enjoyment of the other park visitors, breaking any of our other regulations, or in any way threatening any of the wildlife in the park.

Metal detectors can be used in the province’s parks, provided that:

  • They are only used on beaches and similar disturbed areas (where digging will not affect the natural ecosystem/habitat). In disturbed areas that are being excavated under a research permit, these areas are closed-off from the public to prevent recreational digging
  • No historic resources are damaged or removed
  • No items are removed from the park
  • All items of value (historical or monetary) are turned over to the local park office
  • They are used for recreation and not for commercial purposes
  • Their use doesn’t violate other laws, such as interfering with a person’s quiet enjoyment in the park. People operating metal detectors are encouraged to use an earpiece/headphones to reduce the likelihood of the noise disturbing others.

As in the case of other park users, a person can expect to encounter officers who will inquire about the activities being conducted and require them to identify themselves and their occupation.

In order to dig for historical resources, a person requires an excavation permit issued by the Parks Division under the Historical Resources Act; this permit is associated with archeological or paleontological research permit. In some locations the excavated items are likely to remain in the park for research and storage; in situations where an excavated item is to be removed from the park, a collection permit is required.

Awesome place to spend some time in nature that's only 30 mins from the city. There is a parking lot and a shelter from the weather. Bike and walking trails and good canoe access to the lake.

A 100 m walk takes you to a paddling lake within 40 minutes of the east side of Edmonton. Quite slimy with blue-green algae, and the thought of falling in is not particularly appealing. Numerous pelicans, grebes, and a few ducks. In general, worth the effort for a few hours paddling, but nothing earth-shattering.

It was a really nice surprise to visit this area today. Very well kept, new amenities and quiet. A few families getting ready to boat and kayak.

This is a great multi-use area popular with canoeists, kayakers, runners, birdwatchers, and hikers. A nice big parking lot, with plenty of picnic tables, and closed fire pits. There is also a large shack with a stove if you want to get out of the elements. Pit toilets, and drinking water close by. A great trail system with more trails than you can explore in a day. Watch for trail closures at beginning of trails. You will cross paths with equestrian trails, and bikes as well. Open through the winter with cross country ski trails too.

Beautiful space for boating, hiking, biking and picnicking. We come here for the kayaking and it's so quiet. There are very few people that use this launch because they don't rent boats here. There are a number of routes one can pick once out on the water. So at peace with nature.

A beautiful and quiet place to kayak that doesn't allow motorized boats. It was to hot that day to leave my phone on to take more pictures. There is picnic areas by the parking with toilet pits for washrooms that were clean. You have to carry your kayaks down hill to get to the water but it's not far. Not really much of a beach this place is really mainly for kayaking and its beautiful and quiet, not many people at all. This damsel was hanging out with me in the picnic area

Was informed of this place by a stranger my fiancee and I ran into at the Strathcona Nature Center one time. Very cool place full of trails and nice spots. We've been there to hike in both the summer and the winter and it's great. This year we bought a canoe and it's an excellent place to go. In the staging area there is day use sites with picnic tables as well as fire pits. I hope to get some cross country skiis this season as they groom a lot of the trails in the winter with tracks.

Absolutely awesome day use area with super accessible manual boat launch and great views of the lake.. Huge rain shelters with tables and wood stoves as well as barn doors that slide the whole one side open for those hot days! Huge Fire pits and benches to sit, and convenient outhouses just feet away!!
