Initially our conversation started off well, the person assisting me was giggling and having a grand time. The first remark was that "if you have children you are more likely to be approved" which seemed reasonable to me. Near midway of our conversation after being taken off hold, the tone in their voice took a turn to the point that it became loud and assertive to the point that I felt even threatened. After I was told that this company "will not pay you to be a homemaker" and was asked if either of us had furthered our education past highschool, upon saying no I was told that I "should go to back to school or learn a trade to acheive a better paying job", I do intend to go to college though right now we are not financially stable and cannot be approved for a personal loan. I was then told this is a "last resort option", that there are "many people worse off than you, people who don't even have shelter", I was then threatened to have my marriage reported as "illegitimate" as we are "trying to scam the system for free money" as my husband is of a different ethnicity and is a new comer to Canada, following this I was referred to apply for "E.I. as you will get more money out of them", that the assistance provided through their company would "not likely cover all of your bills" and told to '"sell off any items that hold value", I was repeatedly asked if either of us had "cash in hand in the last 30 days", followed by being told twice to "stop lying" and that I would not likely be accepted but to attend the interview anyway. I was made very aware that the system is "not here to pay for you to sit at home and do nothing!". When reading from a script near the end of our conversation I asked a question and rather than pausing to answer as I repeated my question again, they continued to read from the script ignoring my question followed by "from this point on your job is now to find work! There is lot's of work available out there!" I felt belittled to the point that I don't even feel comfortable going in for our interview. If we do go and are approved there will be a home assessment to assure we have nothing over a $500 value per person (or combined). Let it be noted their processing begins usually 15 days after the initial application however our appointment is set for 28 days later. My partner and I have worked before, now are struggling. We are tax payers and to be treated with such disrespect for a system we helped pay into to have receive nothing in return is a disgrace. It is unfortunate because I have known people who have received this service for years, yet to apply myself for the very first time resulted in a negative outcome. This company does not even handle the income aspect of things as well as the interview process, they handle only the files and are coordinated with Labour Market Services Offices who actually will help you. L.M.S.O. will provide you with assistance to build a proper resumΓ©, assist you in applying for jobs online by use of their computers as well use of their printers for resumΓ©s. On the other hand, websites like Saskjobs.ca are helpful but the employers leave jobs listed for a few months even when the position has been fulfilled due to the fact every new employee is on a trial period. In case the newly hired employee does not work out the employer does not have to pay for another ad listing as these website's are not a free service to companies. With that being said there are '1406' jobs available in Regina which are either taken or require exemplary qualifications. Through other services such as the food bank, we were able to sustain food also were provided with a free mattress from a local church (not of our faith) after sleeping on the floor for weeks. Unfortunately after the conversation I had with the person who did not even provide their name but received an enormous amount of information about us and our situation, I feel like I am a minority as I am not status nor do I have children as that appeared to be their main demographic to offer assistance too.
