About High River Sunset Drive In

The idea behind High River’s Sunset Drive-In is to open the drive-in to charities to host, with half of the proceeds going to those charities and the other half to pay for the equipment and improvements on the site.

The gentlemen spear-heading this blast back to Pop Culture, are local businessmen and partners: Roger Hamel and Wes Shaw. The group also hopes the drive-in will help drive more economic activity into the area.

High River Mayor Craig Snodgrass hopes so too…

“Whenever you’re doing an event that will bring outside people closer to town — maybe they go to the drive-in, maybe they zip into town for supper beforehand — all of those things are just little pieces that mean a lot to the businesses.”

The response from the community and surrounding areas has already been huge. The group expects it will have to sell tickets online to control the number of people who want to come and check it out.

The group hopes to start by playing movies by mid July and added it’s about more than entertainment.

“Everyone’s excited … this will be a great thing for High River.”

I took my 21mth old grandaughter to her first drive in movie Aug. 21st and it was great, and she loved it?. The ONLY thing that put a bug in the evening was the guy next to us left his truck running the ENTIRE time.

Attended several shows throughout the summer and fall. Thank you for the wonderful experience. Would love to have a Christmas drive in. Some classics. It's a wonderful life, Miracle on 34th street, the Grinch. Charlie Brown and Rudolph...

This place is great, and big thanks to the volunteers it was very well run. I really hope whoever runs this Drive In continues to do it for years to come, it can be a great little tradition to spend a night or two there every summer/fall. I also loved the throwback ad's and cartoons!

Loved loved loved it omg. Went with my boyfriend to go see a double feature and had so much fun! All proceeds went to charity, getting in/out was very controlled, the staff were great, and lots of food trucks and bathrooms (with lights in the porta potties!!). 5/5 for sure!

Fantastic setup. Loads of room, great screen. Gives a perfect old timey feel with authentic drive in ads and old cartoons. Going to the Sunset Drive-in is more than going to the movies, it's an experience. Kudos to the organizers.

Went to see a double header this weekend. Fantastic first experience. The volunteers, the food truck staff and especially the concession car-hop were super friendly and helpful. So close to the old days I remember at the drive-in movie, which I can now pass on to the next generation. Best part is profits go to charity! Excellent use of land and talent! We will definitely make this a regular outing when the weather behaves!

Great set up! The volunteer's were friendly and it was worth the drive. Perfect for a COVID free night out. I would recommend showing up a bit early if you plan to use the food trucks.

Been her at least 7 times. Everyone is so friendly. Always had a great time with the family. Here again for another year. Opening night. The family and I are always excited. Can't wait to see what movies are this year.
