About Hanna Visitor Information Centre

This tour takes you by car or by foot through the railway history of Hanna. The federal government’s push to cover the prairies with homesteaders instead of cattle barons encouraged the construction of railways. The Canadian Pacific Railway already linked Eastern Canada to the West Coast. Now smaller rail lines saw an opportunity to tap into local shipping by building a web of rail lines to the north of the CPR. One of these was the Goose Lake Line, Canadian Northern Railway’s link between Saskatoon and Calgary. Hanna became the line’s divisional point.

Your journey starts at the caboose and Visitor Information Centre and follows the footsteps of the early railroaders to the town that grew into a centre for railway traffic. Your route takes you to the Four Corners in downtown Hanna where the coming of the rail line sparked real estate speculation, new business and big dreams. Continue through the residential district to see the homes of Hanna’s settlers before entering the Pioneer Village and Museum where a warm greeting and a tour guide wait to show you through the region’s past. Don’t miss these attractions, both cultural and natural.

Wonderful place to stop. Friendly staff. It was windy out when we stopped there for picnic lunch. Staff member said for us to eat at a table in the exhibit room.

Stopped to use the bathroom and wound up buying ice cream from the two nice young ladies manning the booth. Very quaint, well kept place. I refrained from asking about Nickelback.

Absolutely essential to tourists going through Hanna, headed anywhere in Alberta! The centre has information about tourist attractions all across AB, and are very well informed. Also, an excellent spot to stop for a break and a bit of ice cream ?

Had a great ice cream cone in the 30 degree heat today. Nice facility with public washrooms and information about just about anything that you'd need locally or in the province. They should also have drinks and snacks - I think that service would do well.

To be honest as a reviewer, they were closed for the season so I had to pee on a tree. I'm sure they are excellent when open.

This visitor centre is always one of the main stops on a road trip. They have lots of information about potential places to stop on the way that I might not have known about before. They have wonderful washrooms that are single person and very clean. Ice cream is also sold here!

I went there for information on lakes in the area for fishing whit a boat. None of the 3 girls working had any clues and I was disappointed, then I got to 1 of the hardware stores and they had more information. I believe if you have an information centre it should be staffed with knowledgeable people of that area.
