The sand hills are tricky to find. We followed the directions from SaskHiker, but when we left we went north to Spectre. The Google pin for the parking lot is spot on, and Google shows the grid road from Spectre, so that would probably work best to find it. The dunes weren't as extensive as I expected, but still incredibly cool. We went late in the evening. I'd love to go again and do some hiking and birding in the surrounding hills. There's also an interpretive centre/museum in Spectre that we stumbled upon when we left.

Sand!!! Nice place to visit for a few hours. Large Sand hills of fine sand to walk around on. There is no shelter so when got out take a umbrella and plenty of water it is like the desert. The sand hills are amongst the regular prairie pasture land, no lush vegetation to sit at. We camped at the village of Sceptre Saskatchewan which is the town that hosts the sand hills museum. It is the gateway to the sandhills. They have 4 spots of trailer camping with power hookup for $20 a day. No water or sewer hookups. The space is completely rock but there is a grass area right beside that you may be able to pitch a tent. No reservations. First come basis but we had no problem getting a spot. We were the only ones there. The camping area has a shower house with toilet. It's very clean and well maintained.

Ready access to a large sand dune. You can hike from her to see others. Road to here is a little confusing but use Google maps and this pin drop. No washrooms or any facilities. Sand gets pretty hot under the sun.

Very beautiful place and a unknown treasure of Saskatchewan. Worth seeing once you figure your way around. The climb is short but steep so take a few breaks if out of shape or older. It is worth the short not to difficult climb. It is pretty cool we have a place like this in Saskatchewan. If your are headed to Cypress hills take the detour to this place. You might not spend a great deal of time here, but what you do spend is worth it.

Amazing place it’s the closest thing to a dessert you will find in Canada. It has sand dunes mixed into the surrounding dry landscape which is surrounded by open prairies. Great place for a hike, picnic or just to explore. Dirt roads on the way in and sand can get deep in spots when you approach due to the fast winds in the area.

Another great place of Canada that makes you say wow. Out in the middle of no where there are these sand dunes. These beautiful sand hills are a little bit far off any main road, but worth the visit.

A super cool desert experience in Saskatchewan! A short drive from the small town of Spectre. The Great Sand Hills are located on private land, but is open to the public. It has no cost, vehicles must remain on the roads and in the parking lot. No off road vehicles, camping or fires are allowed. There are also no bathrooms or garbage cans. The sand hills themselves are very neat and fun to climb. You can find cactuses, tiny bones and cow prints. Definitely worth visiting!

A gorgeous little corner of Saskatchewan. Would recommend. Things to know: there are no facilities onsite, so make sure you bring water, snacks, and use the bathroom before you arrive. In the summer it can get pretty hot, so make sure you bring a hat, sunscreen, and decent footwear for walking (flip flips won't do you here). As well, it's a dirt road out to the recreation area, so if it has rained, be prepared to get mucky and if you have a vehicle with 4-wheel drive β€” even better.
