About Good News Auto Mechanic
We are so excited to tell you about Good News Auto Repair, we are a clean, affordable and reliable mechanic shop with a twist, one that takes its profits to help subsidize repairs for those who for whatever reason could not afford to repair their vehicle on their own.
About 20 years ago a ministry called Car Care was started at Sherwood Park Alliance Church. The dilemma people were facing was how to keep their cars safe and on the road when they couldn't afford it on their own. The solution was to partner with a local mechanic and organize volunteers to do basic safety repairs on vehicles. Car Care also repaired and gave away donated vehicles to replace unsafe vehicles removed from the road. Car Care offered a solution to a problem many people face who are on limited incomes or in difficult circumstances: How do I keep my car on the road even though I can’t afford it on my own? Car Care volunteers and Church attendees willingly shared their time, previously owned cars and monetary resources to solve that problem.
2012 - In response to overwhelming demand Good News Auto was created. There were three key reasons for beginning a retail shop:
- to build a mechanic shop that would be accessible throughout the year and would generate funds
- full time qualified mechanics available to repair vehicles for our community
Car Care workshops offer community members the opportunity to learn about their vehicle. Participants can learn online through Good News Auto. A customer who understands their vehicle will save money on vehicle repairs and be safer on the road.
The JumpStart Fund offers financial assistance to people in our community for safety repairs. Our goal is to support those who aren't able to access financial assistance through other programs. The "working poor" make too much to qualify for government supports but not enough to save up for a large repair. This is where our JumpStart Fund can step in to help pay a portion of a safety repair. This helps people keep going to work and not have to make a decision between rent and vehicle repairs.
2019 - As we met people in our community we realized there are many more needs than financial. We decided to build a coffee shop to help spread the word about our JumpStart Fund as well as create a way to offer more assistance in our community. Many of the customers we met through JumpStart had lived through life altering situations like domestic violence, addictions, job loss, major illness and relationship changes. Journey Cafe was started as a place to help with rebuilding after these different traumas. A safe and supportive community is imperative in rebuilding a life and that is what we built Journey Cafe to offer. Volunteer, event hosting, incubating a business, meetings, learning about new resources and meeting new friends are all happening at Journey Cafe.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When my car had a serious problem, I brought it to this repair shop because it had 4.7-star review at that time. But based on what they did to my car, there must be wrong on the way they diagnosed the problem and planned to repair it, which was not favorable to me. At my first contact, I was told that I first had to spend about $1500 and see if there's more repairs to be done or not. I asked them why its like that, I was told that's their "process" of diagnosing and repairing, as per technician's advice. I even was told they don't know if my car would be drivable again after that $1500, which made me freaked out. I decided not to continue for the service and paid them about $137 just for diagnosis. I got my car back, brought to another shop. This second shop said "we'll check this part first for $90 for diagnosis and look at the problem". I paid S317 total for diagnosing and labor/parts for repair. That was it and more than 4 months since then, my car is still running without a problem. I just want to stress that this review is not intended to ruin Good News reputation because I am sure they have also satisfied many customers. This is only from my own personal experience.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good News Auto basically rates itself: honest mechanics who do quality work. Stop taking your vehicle to dealerships for service / repairs and give these guys a phone call instead.
Ignore the grumpy 1-star reviews on here, though the responses from Good News are on point.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I called there this morning with a engine hot ac off light. They quoted me within 30 minutes they called and had a final price and parts ready to do the work. There pricing is amazing, my car goes in tomorrow afternoon to have radiator hoses replaced , but talking to them on the phone was very professional and there pricing is absolutely amazing , and was also referred by a loyal customer who says its best work in town I will be bringing my car here for any further issues ,

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ After seeing all the positive reviews I decided to give them a try. I had an out of province inspection done on my vehicle. I was quoted $2500 by another shop and I wanted to get an opinion from Good News. I spoke with Jesse, told him the situation, and he told me that if the repairs were over a thousand, he would offer me the rest at 50%. Things were looking up and I was hopeful. They took the car in and reported that I would need approx $3900 dollars of work needed to be done and if I went ahead with it, they'd waive the inspection fee. Jesse didn't even speak to me. Needless to say I took the car elsewhere and that 'deal' was not offered to me. They are professional and courteous but like anything in life 'buyer beware' and get second opinions. I won't ever be going back.

Not only were they timely and professional, but wherever possible they aimed to give me the most economical service whilst maintaining a level of quality. Most notably, the staff did a good job of communicating any unclear issues. I definitely will go with them in the future.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you need a good honest mechanic, Good News is amazing. I have been going to them for a while and honestly, I won't even go anywhere else. Very personable and have the atmosphere of a family and that is how you are treated. I have only gone four times in a year span and they recognize my voice and remember my name. I love this about them. The boys are amazing.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ended up at Good News Auto for a CV Axle Issue as seen in the pictures.
I was definitely concerned with the recent reviews but this needed to be addressed immediately.
I showed up at open, and was greeted by a warm welcome. I explained the issue that I was aware of, and my concern to go to my normal shop.
This is a commercial vehicle, so the more time that it's down the more money we lose. They were understanding of this, and the repair was completed in just a few hours.
Staff were friendly, parts were brand new/OEM, and truck was returned better than it came in. I know one simple review won't change the few negative reviews.
I urge anybody that has concerns, judge them by your experience....
I was not disappointed...
