About Golden Acres Honey

Dad started with two hives, mostly as a hobby, but time, determination, and a drive for excellence, saw his hobby grow into a large beekeeping operation. Back then we did it all; beekeeping, extracting, processing, packing, and selling at farmers markets.

In 1984, in order to enter retail markets, we created a separate company and the Golden Acres brand. The business continued to grow, until in 1992, the beekeeping side was sold. Three years later, we purchased the assets and accounts of Willms Honey Producers (Scandia, Alberta), increasing our market share in the private label packaging business.

As is true for many companies, growth often comes in the wake of adversity. 1996 saw our facilities completely destroyed by fire. All was lost, save a few charred pieces of equipment. Our commitment to this business and our customers drove us to rebuild. In only eight weeks we began packing again, in the start of what has become a completely modern, well equipped facility, that is Federally Inspected, and Kosher.

2001 saw the buyout of McKenzie Foods Ltd. Through this purchase we assumed two recognized brands; McKenzie’s, and Alpha (packaged under license from Armstrong Cheese Company Ltd.) Today we ship out everything from Mail Order size packages, to complete Semi-Trailer Loads.

We believe that combining the finest Canadian Honey with personal, friendly service and integrity, will insure your satisfaction, and thus our continued success.

We would like to welcome you to the ever growing family of satisfied Golden Acres customers, making the world a sweeter place.

Hi everyone. There's not very many honey farms that are as awesome as this one and believe me when I say I've been to quite a few! Cheers to all the ones that work hard to make it like it is??

This honey has been great for years. I buy and enjoy the raw (creamed) version. Sadly the last 3kg bucket I opened looked bad in the sense that the top was covered with specs of something dark, which by itself would not have worried me, but the honey itself had a sugary texture and taste. Best before date is in 2019! I would welcome feedback on this as I don't know if it is safe to eat.

I used to buy my raw, unheated, unpasteurized and lightly filtered honey from a business in Carlisle, Ontario, for $175 (excluding taxes but free shipping) for a 15kg bucket but after seeing their prices go up over 12%, I decided it was time to look elsewhere. After doing some research on the internet, I decided I would give Golden Acres Honey Products a try. On Aug 31, 2021 I purchased a 15kg bucket of their Raw Natural Honey specifically because it was not processed and was never heated (melted) or filtered. It cost a total of $178 shipped to our home in Ontario; a reasonable price. I was given an accurate tracking number with Loomis Express and it was delivered on Sept 8th. I was very happy to see the bucket was shipping as is, without using any additional packaging. I weighed the bucket which was approx. 15.87kg. Opening the bucket was an extremely sticky job. More care and attention needs to be placed on cleaning honey off of the bucket itself as well as using something like shrink wrap instead of packing tape that was put around the lid. The packing tape was very difficult to remove and this was only compounded due to the honey that was on some of the sides of the bucket; I’m not even sure tape is needed. After removing the lid, it was evident that the bucket’s rim was not cleaned from honey before putting the lid on the bucket (the business in Carlisle, Ontario definitely had a cleaner bucket). The lid was very good to reseal the bucket. The honey had a beautiful creamy colour and texture, fantastic taste and bits of natural crystalized honey were visible throughout. The real question is, would I buy again from this company? The answer is a definite yes but I also hope that my above critique will help them package the honey more carefully to ensure my sticky situation is not repeated.
