About Globe Theatre

Founded in 1966 by Ken and Sue Kramer, Globe Theatre was Saskatchewan's first professional theatre company. More than fifty years later, Globe Theatre is the province's largest performing arts organization and the regional theatre for Regina and southern Saskatchewan. The theatre is housed in the Prince Edward Building in downtown Regina, a designated heritage site that was built in 1906 as the Regina Post Office and RCMP headquarters and later became City Hall. The theatre took over the second and third floors of the building in 1981. In 2014, Globe Theatre purchased The Prince Edward Building, which had been its rented home for more than thirty years.

Susan Ferley was appointed Artistic Director of Globe Theatre in 1990 and provided the company with strong leadership and stability over her eight-year tenure. Ruth Smillie was appointed the Artistic Director and CEO of Globe Theatre in 1998.

As Globe Theatre continued to grow in size, it was apparent that the organizaiton needed to split the executive roles between business and artisitic decision making. In 2019, Jaime Boldt took over as Globe Theatre's first Executive Director and shortly following that, Jennifer Brewin joined the team as the Artisitic Director in 2020.

Pre-Renovations.

Globe Theatre programs two stages: a 406 seat theatre-in-the-round Main Stage and a 100 seat black box space where the theatre produces the Sandbox Series, a showcase for new work, emerging artists, and experimental theatre. The 6-play Main Stage program includes at least three Canadian plays each season.  The theatre also programs a ‘special event’ at the Casino Regina Show Lounge and, between 2013-2016, a provincial tour. The theatre sells between 60,000 and 70,000 tickets each season. The practice of producing a Main Stage season in-the-round is a challenging and exhilarating process that fires up the imaginations of the artists who work at Globe Theatre.

Love the shows. Have had an annual subscription for years. Not much a fan of Shakespeare but love the funny and touching shows. Salt Baby was the last one we saw. Quite good. Made me laugh and cry. The theatre in the round is such an excellent idea - everyone has a great seat.

We saw beauty and the beast; amazing performance the cast was wonderful and joyful to watch. The stage is great with no "bad" seating as every placement had a great view of the performance space.

Our family has held seasons tickets here for... Jeez, at least 15 years? That should be a sufficient statement of my love of this place. With few exceptions, every show is just outstanding. The space is utilized to great effect, the tech crew(s) are excellent, and typically the actor(s) are top-notch. Just remember to turn off or silence your cellular devices, and don't put your drink cups on the balcony ledges or on the floor... And enjoy the show!

Always such a great time. We go every year. The performances are so fun and enjoyable. The theatre itself is organized well and it's easy to get in and out of, unlike so many other theatres (including the coat check if you're attending in the winter). Bonus: the drinks aren't even that expensive. The price is pretty average for a high-ball or beer.

The theatre in the round is great and they definitely pulled off this Cinderella version. We brought a 9 year old girl with us who enjoyed it tremendously and declared it "even better than the movie". That's pretty high praise!

Love this place! Great seats. Love all the actors and actresses. I wish I could go to every show. We saw Cinderella on boxing day and it was so well done. I felt relaxed and thoroughly entertained

Loved it. Given the scale and budget this was every bit as good as Broadway. The stage itself is fantastic, actual obe theatre setup.

If you like live theatre then you should check this out, haven't seen a bad show yet. March 5/19:. Went back for another show, it was just as good as the first, only a fair bit weirder, I think we were even in the same seats. Craft beer/beer and other adult beverages available. Another place in a long line of "will return to".
