Just went out for supper - no golfing. Great Gilwood Burger. Gravy on poutine was best I have had in a long while. The daiquiri was good too.

Food review for the Golf Course in Slave Lake Overall rating of 2.8 stars of 5. I suppose i shouldn't have expected much, but there was significant contrast to previous years when the food was at least 4 of 5 stars. I think the menu is very well designed and very simple... so i cannot understand why they can't cook from fresh, not frozen, nor store bought; other than the obvious 'cost savings' and no thinking cooking. IMO producing quality meals will impact your bottom line more positively than the above anyway, so i don't get it. You wouldn't need a chef to produce this menu either, which i thought was the point. Food Sampled: Chicken Burger: Dry as bones. Like really really dry. My colleague was mid-eating his burger and i could hear his voice change from the chicken sucking the moisture from his mouth as it was trying to come to equilibrium. Nice sized piece of chicken, but holy crow... no good. Not sure if it was grilled then frozen then reheated? Anyway, don't bother with that piece of garbage. 2/10 Better than Traditional Burger: Meh... seemed ok. The menu indicated that it was homemade, but for some reason it tasted very generic. I would eat it again in a pinch. 5.7/10 Mozza Sticks: Not sure why i had any type of hope for these in the first place. I seen the frozen McCain box come right out of the freezer and into the frier. One day i would like to see someone make them from scratch. Not like it is hard. McCains gets a 5/10. Potato Skins: Seemed fairly decent. Looked like real bacon, sour cream and onions on top. The skins themselves were pretty dry, but not as dry as that fricken chicken... holy. I think it is likely that the potato skins come frozen and then they just top them with real stuff. Not sure.. Rating of 6.9/10...maybe slightly less. Fries: Seems like they got this one right. There is a nice light batter on the fries that gives them a crispness throughout. 8.5/10. Good work IMO, but room for improvement on the frozen and freshness side of things. Anyway... I wouldn't go there looking to be impressed. I mean it is a golf course... so i get it, but it would be nice if people could up there game in this town. You don't necessarily need the most expensive ingredients to make a good meal. Being prepared, looking ahead, and cooking from fresh will go a long way in ones popularity and pocket books. Regards. GG

Golfed today and the staff were awesome but the overall course seems tired. I don't mean spring season tired but unkempt and neglected. Like I said it was spring season and we weren't expecting much..but... oh well. Like I said staff were great and the manager/supervisor was awesome. Kitchen staff was great too!. I was a member here for many years and I enjoyed many spring seasons as well as summer and fall. The golf carts were old and slow, the buildings at least two years away from a good paining. Carpet and overall facilities were worn and in bad need of an update. Maybe in a month or so there will be much improvement. I did see as we were enjoying a burger, two groups of 6 teeing off. I like a quick pace of play and I would not appreciate having to follow this. Four is usually the norm and a very acceptable rule. But again! Great staff!!

Great hidden gem. A must play when in the area. Great place for the kids to learn the game or for a casual business meeting on the course. The deck is a great place to unwind after a long day at work or to finish off a round of golf.
