Four Happy Restaurant - St. Marys

Tried this place shortly after it opened. Food is like the Wok place in the foodcourt at Maisonville mall. Average and greasy. But, there’s more too as why I give this place 1 star . From what I’ve been told by several local St.Mary’s residents/friends recently , this newish restaurant; the Happy owners were actually suppose to buy and take over the Chinese place across the street. From what I understand, the owners their were planning on retiring after 30+ years in the business; ready to settle down, buy a house and well, retire. That obviously did not happen. Apparently, around the same time when they were going to close the deal, the Black Angus came up for sale (I miss that place), and the Happy people decided to double cross and back stab the other Chinese place, and open up, thats right, a FOURTH Chinese restaurant, in this tiny town. I guess they figured it was a smarter idea to have there own place the way they want it, then it is taking over an established business and having their customers, while hoping to drive them and the other 2 Chinese restaurants in town, out of business. When I heard about this, I was disgusted and appalled by this cold hearted act. As a small business owner in the past myself, and having gone through something similar to what happened to the owners at the other Chinese place. its a pretty horrible feeling and experience, to have someone back stab you like that. What these Four Happy people did truly disgusts me. Crushing the dreams of retirement for the other owners, and trying to take there business and customers away afterwards is cruel and truly fires me up. I don’t commend outsiders who come into my town, and screw with the people who work and live here for a living. Some of you might say, well its business. You can get away with something like that in a city like Toronto, but not in this small community where residents are much more closer together and support each-other As another review I saw on TripAdvisor said, it doesn’t even make business sense, er should I say common sense, to open up a 4th Chinese place in this town when Stratford has 1 in the downtown, with ten times the population compared to St.marys I post this rant to let the residents of St.Marys who aren’t aware to know where this restaurant came from and how these people came here. Cold hearted acts like this are not welcomed in this town, and the people will respond. The business might be local, but the owners sure aren’t. They may seem nice and innocent, but I’ve met there kind before, cold hearted back stabbing snakes at heart. Im sure they will tell some different story when asked, but I think hearing what the locals have to say over random strangers from Toronto says it all. I drive through the downtown quite frequently, and I see the community already has responded since I saw this place poped up 2 years ago. No more everyday buffets ads in the window and a dark dining room. Guess there too embarrassed to show an empty place. The only worse part of this, is those kids they pumped out will grow up in a family that is frowned upon and disliked by the community. Support local businesses, and support the local people but stay away from this place. They just don't deserve it. I am happy to see and hear that the other Chinese places didn’t suffer thanks to a diligent loyal community. To the owners, SHAME ON YOU! What you did was cold hearted and disrespectful. We know what you did, and have not forgotten and clearly responded with the lack of business since you opened. You do not deserve this community’s kindness, compassion, hospitality, let alone our business. All I can say is, in the words of the famous Chef Gordon Ramsay: “GET OUT”. You thought you could bully your way into a shining business of the downtown, well, that was never going to happen. St.Marys did not need a 4th Chinese restaurant, and we certainly do not need people like you who try and double cross local residents and businesses. You my as well turn that Happy sign upside down, because this town won’t be a happy place for you!

4.5 all day long. Fresh, tasty, the batter they use is light and crispy. Best Chinese in this county.

Great food and fast service! The lovely little family that runs it are so kind :) Definitely our favourite Chinese food place in town, will always go back

Decent food. Worth the money. Actually this is a unique little non-chain local restaurant. We would go back. Room for about 30 diners. No blaring tv's. Some booths; some tables & chairs. One cook/server on a Monday evening about 7pm. Two little ones, about 4 to 6 years of age in a close by area watching their tv. Looked like a day care area. One other couple when we arrived; one take-away while we were there. We each had Combo C. Mine was very good; no left overs. My wife had to have a to-go box. Hot tea. No desserts. We are from the Detroit area and average age "80". We would take family there. We enjoyed our dinner; especially the lack of blaring music or boisterous diners. Go and enjoy.

This place is a quiet little spot to enjoy some Chinese food. My favorite dish is Singapore fried noodle, a curry dish with various meat. Most people order out but if you like to eat in it's good too.

I order from here almost every weekend and so far have always had a great experience and the staff were always friendly when I picked up my orders. I normally just order combos, but i tried the seafood hotpot and loved the flavors. Spicy squid is incredible too if you can handle the spice.

Amazing food and people!! My husband and I usually order pretty late at night for takeout and they're always so pleasant about it. We haven't ordered in a while, but everytime we go we're greeted by smiles and lovely food. I couldn't imagine going anywhere else.

Friendly staff and great food! Thank you for the great New Year’s Eve take out dinner. Everyone loved it.
