I've been going to Fitness World Kitsilano for the past 6 months now so I think I've got a good idea as to everything, that being said everyone has different needs. First of all I'd like to say that people need to stop expecting the world when they're only willing to spend under $20 a month for unlimited access to a gym. Get a grip and pay up for a more premium offering if you are so concerned about minor things. For the most part the equipment in this gym is absolutely fine. Could some do with maintenance/replacement? Perhaps, but it's few and far between. Every piece of equipment I use has been fine the whole time I've been there. Cleanliness is fine too, wipes are always readily available (and used). Is it spotless? Probably not. The locker rooms are spacious and clean, plenty of lockers to go around. I don't shower in the gym myself so can't comment on that. The biggest issue, and the reason a star is being docked, is that this place is packed at peak times. Unfortunately I can only workout in the evening and sometimes it's essentially impossible to get access to some pieces of equipment. I completely gave up ever using a squat rack as I wasn't willing to stand around like an oaf waiting on people to finish for half an hour. So, I primarily use benches and cable machines. Unfortunately these too can be very busy and at times you'll have to wait a while to get one. The resistance machines are generally available, as is cardio equipment, it's mainly the free weights that get overly busy. If you want to avoid this I suggest avoiding evenings unless you go just before close, perhaps 8.30pm onwards. Weekends (and probably weekday mornings) are much, much better, especially if you arrive at opening. I find customer service here to be nonexistent so don't expect a lot. There was no orientation upon signing up, if you're a newcomer to the gym expect to have to ask to be shown how everything operates. I have literally never interacted with a member of staff, not even to say hello or goodbye. Unless you make the effort, don't expect them to. I'm fine with it but some people expect a friendly welcome/goodbye for some reason. I fully expect cancelling my plan to be a pain in the butt, it always is at these low cost gyms. Overall this is a fine gym for what you pay. If you just want to show up, workout and leave without any bells and whistles this will fit the bill just fine. The only real issue is how busy it can get, but then aren't all these low cost gyms in the city busy? You generally have to avoid peak times if you want it to be quiet, if you can't do that (like me) you just have to live with it.

This place is a joke, both as a business and a service - the corporate arm of this business makes it virtually impossible for you to have any dialogue on complaints or for clarification on charges/memberships/contract queries- they keep the on floor staff in the dark to protect their revenue streams and in turn the staff are uninterested and for the most part unhelpful in any question. Yes its cheap, very cheap if you pick the 9.95 every 2 weeks option (make sure you check your bank payments, as they overcharge until you notice sometimes and not refund) - but with overcrowding, poor maintenance of equipment and terrible attitude of staff you would be better off paying the extra couple of dollars elsewhere. If like me you go because the location is accessible you will look forward to dishonesty on membership deals, yearly extra charges for β€œgym upkeep” (last count there were no less than 5 gym televisions out of service and several broken pieces of equipment) , overcrowding and terrible customer service. Save yourself the annoyance

Only decent gym I know of in the area... Cheap for the basic membership and has the essentials if you aren't a hardcore lifter. Replacing wet wipes for machines and paper towels in the bathroom are slow. Biggest complaint is it's wayyyy too busy during prime hours. I workout during business hours so it doesnt effect me, but I cant imagine working out at 5:30pm if I had to do sets on weights

It’s cheap and the space is decent but it’s so packed that it makes it really hard to get into a nice training pace. They seem like they’re overselling memberships. Yesterday I counted about 80 people inside the gym. Not cool

This gym really needs more lighter weight dumbbells. So often the racks are empty and people tend to hoard 2 sets and aren't willing to share. Other than that, the gym is a good place to workout. The lack of dumbbells is frustrating though.

Have to say that staff don't seem too concerned about patrons not using masks inside the facility while moving around. Many gym goers look like they don't even have masks with them as they walk all over the place and staff don't say a word. They do (most), however, set an example by wearing one themselves which is nice to see. The gym area is fairly clean but the locker rooms and showers are not cleaned often enough and the mold in the showers continues to spread. It's unfortunate. With the ease of Omicron spread still being a big concern it doesn't leave one feeling as safe as it could be. UPDATE: Happy to say that new management (Carlos and team) tackled those nasty showers over the last closure over the Xmas holidays and made them sparkle. Cudos!! 1st time for a deep clean to remove that black mold in several years. So appreciated and thanks for listening. Hopefully cleaning will be regular. Now for those masks! Still working on it as there is not much enforcement of the posted policies. ?

Awful, awful gym. Do not recommend a membership. If you’re like me, you’re just looking for somewhere to workout that isn’t crazy expensive. There’s tons of good chains out there like Club 16 that offer quality, clean facilities for less than $20/month. This Fitness World location is the answer to the question β€œhow bad can it really be, if it’s that cheap?”. Frequently broken, poorly upkept equipment. The attached photo is a nice shot of my now-gunky hand after using one of the row machines that was fixed with hockey tape. Always stock issues with cleaning wipes and paper towels. The place is always, always overcrowded to the point of not being able to use equipment you want to. Finally, and this is typical of places like this, they give you the run around and make it as inconvenient as possible to cancel. Giving the wrong cancellation email address on your contract. Making up clauses that were not included on the contract. Deflecting on questions. Never had issues with Club 16 when cancelling. Did with Fitness World. If you go to the gym once a week or so mid-day and want something cheap, sure. If you workout regularly and know the difference between a proper gym and a place with treadmills designed to take you money, don’t come anywhere near this place.

The floors are disgusting. There is zero ventilation in the gym so it is always extremely humid and hot. It is absolutely packed with people from open to close, and half the time there is nothing to clean the machines with. Truly the worst environment to get a safe and clean workout. On several occasions there has been zero toilet paper in the women's bathroom and when the staff have been notified they do nothing about it.
