My name is F J Pooley of f j Pooley plastering I am writing this review to address some key points posted by my one and only negative review I have had in almost two decades of plastering in Canada , I have been plastering for almost 37 years and want to address the points bought up by Cuong guyen I am all for objective , negative , constructive reviews , but not in favour of untruths , and defamatory remarks I extensively trained under a master plasterer who in turn had been trained by a master , as with most trades in Europe Firstly we did as Cuong points out start later than we had said, but he was aware when I estimated the job we normally complete one job before starting another one , Secondly , the young guy left in the job with the apprentice , has been taught by me fjr 6 years to a point where he in turn does his own jobs occasionally , but still works with me so he is continually learning , he is also paid handsomely, due to his skill level he has mastered Thirdly the ceiling in question was a freebie , no money taken for this , I had agreed to help him as I was working by luck on his neighbours house two doors away I have plastered six houses 3 to 5 doors away from Cuongs home restoring all the plaster in the homes I helped him out free of charge as we had done plaster work on his home back in Julywhich was a big job all ceilings ,80% wall replaster , he had finally in December decided to paint , rather than get a professional painter in he decided to do it himself , which is fine but unfortunately he made a disaster of the first ceiling , terrible job, I viewed the ceiling and said we could do a fine reskim over the paint and make it new again I want to point out he paid in full $3300for the work we done in summer ,although he refused to pay the HST, the cash was deposited in my bank and I am currently talking to my accountant about him not paying the HST I want to point out I only take $250/$350 depositS then get paid fully when completed , I took a partial payment half way through his job as his job was almost a month of work , with a lot of material outlay my end I also want to point out the reason I also said I would help fix his disaster was because a ceiling we had done in the basement, prior to plastering it , he had taken a belt sander to get rid of the irregular shape which had caused catastrophic dust which I had told him he should not have done due to the risk of asbestos that might be present based on the vintage of his home Unfortunately he went ahead , despite my advice whilst living in the House with a small child and wife The ceiling he is commenting on was started with the understanding that it would be worked around his neighbours time sensitive job, just prior to Xmas , he knew that upfront, plus it was free , to help him out ,I put one skim over the disastrous ceiling and said I would return another night to complete it I did indeed not get back one night when I said I could as I was at the neighbours till 8 40 pm as they were needing a specific area done to progress with their other work, which i completed , hence the late night,not easy considering I am a single dad with three kids and two big dogs to boot The next evening I did indeed tell him I could do it ,but at 8.10 on the said evening , I was finishing at his neighbours again , and there was a snow blizzard ? I took a call from him , bearing in mind I had told him several times I could do a daytime visit , which he did nit want The phone call resulted him verbally assaulting me , being beligerent all within earshot of his neighbour who remarked on how diplomatic i was ,any customer will tell yiu that is my nature I told Cuong that I was hanging up the phone and was not being spoken to like that , plus he was not audible at this point , he was ranting , which is strange because he said he is a Buddhist Customers please make positive , negative , critical comments , but all I ask as many contractors would ,be honest I am currently getting legal advice due to his review not being truthful Regards F j Pooley

I'd like to share my experience working with this person/company: - Hire him to do plastering in our bungalow. Agreed to start the work first week of June 2017 but got delayed two weeks for many reasons. - First two weeks, Frank showed up for maybe 30 mins a day till I had to request him to come to the site to work. During that time, most of the work was done by a younger fellow and a kid who was learning. - The job was not finished when we moved on. This gave us very hard time to do other work/ to live in the house. - The worst part is a sloppy work. They did not oil primed the wall before putting plaster on. This caused the wall bubbled. Called him and he said it is minor (!??). - I believed him that was a mistake and moved till the most recent job when we want him to skim coat a small ceiling. He agreed to do. However, after putting the first coat in, he did not come to put the finish coat. Arranged to come twice but never show up and worst, did NOT call or inform us until I and my wife (each for one day) had to wait him for over 3 hours and had to call him to find out. After I told him that he should respect people by letting them know if you not show up, he got mad and dropped the call. A day later, when I politely texted him to ask if he is going to finish the job as agreed or removed the first coat, he said "No, what reason would I do that". So he left an unfinished work that he agreed to do. Very nice Mr. Pooley! I have No trust on that person. I never wrote a negative feedback before, but I thought I should share this experience to help other people making their decision when working with this person/company. Updated on Mar 2018: Since I have seen the response from Frank Pooley to my review (by rated himself 5 star!). I'd update my review to show his untruth responses: - Regarding payment and HST: He accused me on payment is totally untruth and I will sue him for his statement. Here is the original "contract" Frank sent me via email, I copy and paste here. Also, he did some extra work and I agreed to pay a bit more: "Materials $ 855 Labour $3670 HST $588,25 Total cost $5,113,,25" Starting the work, I paid him twice via TD e-transfer ($650 on 06/20/2017 ans $1750 on 07/11/2017) which he asked for to pay material and labor. He NEVER EVER send me receipts or remaining balance bills for these payments! For final payment, Frank offered me discount on cash payment that I paid $3300 cash that Frank said deposit in his bank. Again, he failed to provide final receipt or warranty documents to me. HST is on his responsibility and I paid what he asked for. If it was my fault, why he did not bill me right away but after over 6 months of finishing the work (and when this review was posted) ? Even, recently when I contacted my lawyer, my lawyer advised to get the receipt for the work with his company name and HST NUMBER, Frank NEVER sent me one! I have all the e-transfer and cash amount receipts from TD-bank to show at court. Enough said about this shady person ! - The small ceiling he said "free"? It is funny. We painted the room when the room temperature was high so we decided to start over. We HIRED him (yes, we did not ask for free work!) to re-do the room and he agreed. He left unfinished ceiling (looks very bad) right before Christmas and call it "free". How nice is his free stuff? - Regarding Frank comment on asbestos in our house: we had an inspector tested through the house and we knew which room have asbestos. We know what we are doing. That guy no idea of what he was talking about. He should focus on what he is hired to do. - All Frank did when he saw my review was calling/texting to blame and threaten, such as taking me to court, telling all the contractors in Ottawa not working at my property,...He did not work with his customer to fix the problems but try to threaten them first. You can judge what type of contractor he is. I tried to upload some photo to back up my review but only one showed up. Yes, I am looking to see him in a court. Those kind of trade person should be banned in our city!

I undertook a major renovation project on a 65 year old home to create one open space from the living/dining/kitchen areas that involved removing six walls (including a 20' load bearing wall), cutting out plaster coves, flattening stipple ceilings and adding a 14 x 20 foot kitchen/sunroom extension. With gaping holes all over the place from the removed walls and coves, Frank and company expertly stitched the ceilings together to create one smooth and seamless ceiling even though the thickness of the existing plaster and stipple varied considerably from room to room. To this day, I marvel at how well Frank's work turned out and am particularly amazed that it was done without any sanding whatsoever. He and his colleagues truly are skilled and accomplished craftsmen. I should also note that Frank started my project on schedule, stayed on the job until it was completed and remained on budget.
