Let me start with the staff are great! The place is nice and cozy but no worries there is another floor, open space too. I went there at lunch special and ordered the beef curry because its spicy not very tho it was great. It came with salad which is well dressed, beans and caramelized onions plus potatoes, fluffy white rice, I almost forget the soup nice one kind of homey. The the main the lamb curry over all it was delicious the beef isnt hard and flavorful the is curry is not watery and tasty, great experience I'd come again.

I got food poisoning from the butter paneer. Restaurant needs to be more mindful of cross contamination and sanitization. I am convinced of this because I ate it first and then got very, very sick: cramping and excessive vomiting and diarrhea. Without understanding what the source of my illness was, my partner finished the leftovers of the butter paneer the following day and fell similarly ill shortly thereafter. We called to inform the restaurant and the person who answered the phone was gentle and replied by saying that they don’t use leftovers and that they’ve been in business for 55 years and that their name is important to them. They didn’t really address anything about what they do to avoid cross contamination and may not be aware that this is usually the source of food poisoning. Something to consider when ordering.

This specific location has the best butter chicken there is in montreal. Firstly, the owner is too sweet and extremely kind. The staff is super hospitable and eating in person is a delight as the ambience is perfect. If you ask, they will make it spicy for you specifically. Their papar is also super light and crisp! 6/5 stars for me!

You can't go wrong if you pick indian take out from Star of India. The staff are so lovely, they prepared a big order (5 separate dishes) for us on the spot even though it was close to closing time on a busy Saturday night. We only waited for ten minutes. Dining in is quaint and cozy, even if the restaurant is a little bit beat up. You won't care about it, though, when you taste the food :) Be forewarned, If you like it REALLY spicy, you need to ask.

Our office orders food for lunch with nearby restaurants and I wanted to give this place a try since I enjoy Indian food. I ordered the basic butter chicken just because I felt like something not so spicy today (I know, I know, it's butter chicken and not Vindaloo or something more authentic). The bigger issue was that there was a dead ant in my butter chicken. It looked like something charred but it was a black ant. Instantly did not want to continue eating and felt ripped off. The other less impactful issue was that it was not very tasty. It mostly tasted like butter and I had to really search for an onion or other flavors. Kraft dinner (bechamel sauce) came to mind when tasting it. The chicken was fine but the sauce was really bland and not great (which is half of the dish). I expected much more flavors (spices) than there were. I can't speak about the more authentic dishes like Vinaloo but it doesn't excuse the butter chicken being sub par since the price is the same. Maybe the ant died from the blandness. Since I didn't go to the actual restaurant I don't know about the service (so not considered in the review) but so far the food experience has been less than desirable. After this experience, it's a pass for me. I have concerns over the cleanliness of the kitchen now and am worried about trying more dishes.

This is probably my fourth time having Indian food at an authentic restaurant and I have to say, this place definitely captures India from an architectural standpoint. The waiter offered excellent service and made sure we were well taken care of.The food was great too, notably the green chutney that they served was the "star" of the show.My only issue is that the Chicken Tikka was a little dry on the inside.Otherwise,I would recommend investing.

Went for first time. Received uncooked Chapati!!! N Only Potatoes instead of Allo-Methi (Potatoes with Fenugreek). Told the Server to change them n the guy behaved very rudely and told us to leave the restaurant. Very worst N unprofessional attitude by the server. Don’t even deserve 1 star!!!!!

Landed late at night and found a good Indian place for a takeout. The staff was friendly and the food was warm tasty and full filling. Good quantity for take out. Vegan Vegetarian options are available. The Roti/ chappati were thin and super delicious.
