Go early if you want parking/to avoid huge influx of people. However you will likely experience cloud coverage earlier in the day.

Love the hike. Its January 2022 the first 1.5km is dry. Steady uphill climb with a few level spots to get your breath if you're a novice. I'm recovery from Achilles tendonitis so only half way for me. I only gave 4 stars due to auto break ins. Leave your valuables at home. We dont lock up, to avoid window breakage. Otherwise 5 stars. I've been to the top in the summer. Bring water and snacks, wear good hikers and good socks. We watched hang gliders. Breath taking views!

This trail was absolutely beautiful. I am a beginner however so it was extremely difficult for me, however I was able to make it most of the way up.

Super shady for most of the hike so heat is not a concern. Steep in sections recommend trekking poles and taking care of where you step. It was quite dry up top. The bugs are no joke.

We thoroughly enjoyed our hike up Elk Mountain and then on to Thurston Mountain. The first 1.5 hours is a steady upward grind, but the view from the top is worth it. Make sure that you go on the trail after you reach the top of Elk for at least 20 minutes for more stunning views and some lovely mountain flowers (June - August).

Beautiful trail! Trailhead is at the very end of the road, which is rough but accessible by most vehicles. There is a small parking lot, which fills up quickly on weekends all year round. I strongly recommend microspikes this time of year. Check alltrails reviews for up to date trail information. It's a tough trail; bring plenty of water and snacks.
