The instructors are excellent and very knowledgeable. However, the management is just out to make money, so they have lots of overlapping classes through the year - all to make more money. Management will try and tell you there are lots of jobs available out there but this is not true. They told my daughter they were going to have placements for the top 5 in the class, but this was also not true. Although you'll learn great makeup skills, there are few jobs out there. At my daughter's graduation (which was so cheesy and cheap), they told the graduating students they'll have to volunteer for most jobs, in order to get experience. This is fine if you're living with your parents in Toronto but won't pay the rent if you're on your own. You'll be spending $24,000.00 for skills you may never use. Beware.

So, I just recently graduated from CMU College, and it was one of the investments I did for myself. Coming to CMU was something I planned for so long, way too many years… At least since 2008 or 2009, and for all these years it didn’t happened for me because I did have a great job, I was also doing freelance work as an artist, and decided that I will a year… and that turned into 2 years, 5 years… until now. This was not my first time in college, years ago I went to school for something completed different and back then I was too young, fresh out of high school, and I was not ready for the real world… As a matter of the fact, I did not have life experience because I wanted to travel, embark on my own adventures which I did end up doing when I was done with college the first time. I have many friends that has completed CMU College over the years, as some of these friends goes back as far as when it was known as Complections. For years I admire their work, and that was always inspiring since getting into doing SPFX makeup was a goal for me, and it was in 2019 when I finally decided that I needed to this. I knew it would not be easy since I did not know the first thing about makeup… Never done this before, and it was going to be a new venture for me. I decided that I would go for it and have no expectations but embrace it and do the best I can do. Unfortunately for some people the expectations were extremely high going to CMU, and they expected things to be easy, but the reality is that to learn you go have to be challenged, be tested, and do the work. I am glad I did, and I chose to do it during the worst time the world could imagen… After waiting to finally do this, I decided that I would do it during Covid, and there was no better time. Knowing the circumstances in the world at the time, I did know what I was signing for, and determined to do it any ways because it was something I really wanted to do. I know some people did not have the experience I had, I heard it all, negative and positive comments, of how things were managed, but the truth is that the managements and instructors did the best they could, and for what it was they did great. It is not easy to take a challenge like the one I did during a pandemic, just imagine what maybe the instructors and management had to go through. In my opinion it was a success, but also, I had my mind set, and I was determined that I wanted to do this for myself. I worked hard, and learning to apply makeup was not easy, especially on myself. I poked my eyes with eyeliner, but I accomplished it. I went from knowing nothing to doing work that made myself immensely proud. Also, I am incredibly grateful for having all the great instructors I had during my time at CMU, they are very professional. It will not be the last time I will see them. I might return in the future for other programs like the creature design program. Now that I have graduated, I am waiting to start on my next chapter, did I find work? Well, I am working on that… that is something that I also must do myself, and it is something I have been planning on doing from before I started at CMU, and I do have some leads, and calls for future gigs and that is because I know what I accomplished it speaks for itself… But I still have not stop learning, I practice constantly on myself, on my partner… I am sculpting a lot because I plan to bring my own monsters to life. So, I hope this helps some one that is seriously looking into getting into makeup, and I hope CMU I on your list.
