bought tickets in advance, had assigned seats, and enjoyed the show! the folks at the Beaubien are always friendly, and so many of the films they show are ones i want to see! i love that you can now use your membership card at all 3 cinemas (including Cinéma du Parc and Cinéma du Musée)!

Most of the movies they offer are local movies, in Quebec French, produced for a local audience, with local actors, local themes, and quite frankly boring like most of Quebec productions. The distribution of the seats is rather awkward, they are placed on a semi-circle rather than completely frontal to the screen, in a straight line, like in most of movie theatres. They could have been a bit smarter and leave some space for people to circulate, particularly those who will be sitting at the end of the rows towards the sides, who by the way, will be watching the movie from a lateral angle. If you are sitting where I was you cannot leave your row without bothering those sitting at the center since there is no way to et up and walk by the wall. The seats are not precisely comfortable, the arm rests are made of plastic so after a while my arms were numb. If you want a wider variety of independent films from around the world try Cinema Du Parc, owned by the same company.

The Cinéma Beaubien is one of the few theatres in Montreal that focuses exclusively on independent and art-house films. This makes it the perfect place to catch a unique film that you're unlikely to see anywhere else. The theatre is also home to a number of film events throughout the year, so there's always something new to see. In addition to the films, the Cinéma Beaubien also has a small cafe that serves up some great popcorn and drinks.

On December 3, 1937, the cinema was inaugurated under the name LE BEAUBIEN, and then had 400 seats. It delighted moviegoers at a time when Montreal had a hundred neighborhood cinemas. The building quickly became part of the historical heritage of the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie borough.
